Bike Stutters, Headlight Stops Working

took a ride yesterday. my brother was riding my Wee. we stopped at a light and when he took off, the bike sounded sorta like he was in 2nd or 3rd gear. it was a little different, like it was miss firing. anyway, it returned to normal after 5 seconds and we went down the road. we pulled over after a mile or so, to look over the bike. well, neither Hi/Lo headlights were working. bike seemed fine, so we took off. the lights started to work, and bike seemed ok.

i don't believe it "healed" itself. where should i be looking to find the problem?

thanks, Keith

if a man speaks, and there isn't a woman around to hear him, is he still wrong?:confused1:

Headlight problems are covered at https://www.stromtrooper.com/informat...-problems.html

That is usually a start switch contact or sometimes a bad connection. The running problem can also be a bad connection but may be a charging system problem leading to low voltage or a bad battery. Put a voltmeter on the battery leads and check with the ignition off, at idle and at or above 3000rpm. Let us know the results but check against the following table.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s
See https://www.stromtrooper.com/general-...nicknames.html

Please vote in the poll on what Strom(s) you have at https://www.stromtrooper.com/informat...-you-have.html

Check the battery terminals are tight, they tend to work loose on bikes.
