new to me 18 vee xt

2018 vee, bought it used with 3800 miles and still sorting it out. Previous owner liked to tinker and I am anal. Not a good combination. Pulled the tank to put the oem air filter back on from a k&n. Also installed original counter shaft 17 tooth sprocket and removed lower kit and put front forks back to the top of the mounts. I guess you get the point. There are two drain or vent hoses to the fuel tank and one small vacuum looking hose tied to the other two not plugged to anything. Where does it go. Has a 90 degree turn at the top. Thanks for any help or advice on getting it back to stock.

I feel like you and I just went through the exact process.

I just bought a lowered and tinkered with Strom (2018 with only 1200km) and have been sorting it out. While I can't help you with your questions, did you do the lowering link reversal yourself? Why ditch the K&N?

Long time rider, new to Stromming.
2018 DL1000 ... in yellow. <sigh>

The lowering link was the two side plates not the dog bone itself. Yes I put it on the center stand and used a 2x2 under the rear tire to line up the linkage. Maybe 45 minutes. Replacing the K&N was a mistake. I knew I was not going to take it out and clean and oil it when time was due, but I did not realize it is a true quality product until I looked at it. Just a note on the lowering link. After raising the fork tubes to factory I took the bike on a mildly spirited ride and ground pegs on both sides. I am in my 60's not a racer. I think these plates only dropped the bike about an inch though.

Congrats!

Congrats, Danny.

As for the changes (back to OEM), that sounds exactly like what I'd do.

Sorry I can't answer your question(s).

One of the moderators will probably move this over to a Vee forum for you.

Thanks for posting!

Bike color?

Ride safe and enjoy. These are great bikes. I've had a ton of fun on them! Rode to work this morning, and yesterday, etc.

2007 Wee. Blue. Bought at 5K miles. Sold at 32K+ miles. Gone but not forgotten.

2012 Wee2 Adventure. Black. Bought at 26K miles. Now 41K+. Love it! (but plan to own a 2014+ Vee, someday).

Moved.....

2015 Suzuki V-Strom DL650 bought new 4/26/17
2015 Victory Cross Country bought new 7/11/15 (dyno tuned 118hp 116tq)
If it's not broken, make it better
My take on oil: Name brand, wet clutch compatible.....BAM good to go.

K&N

I agree with Josh, and you, now, on the K&N.

But there's nothing wrong with the OEM air filter. I've had no issues with them.

My Wee now has a new K&N, but it came, unused, with the bike. When I had the valve recall done, probably at around 30K miles, I asked the dealer to drop in the new K&N. They did that. K&Ns appear to be well made. Maybe hang onto it and use it at some point in the future?

Good luck, regardless.

The bike is black and silver xt. Couple of other things come to mind. The center stand is a must and the Puig chain guard fender piece combination is a definite keeper. I did order the case mounts and Suzuki side cases. I learned a neat trick a friend showed me how to modify the case locks to work with the ignition key that came with the bike. So now I only have to carry one key.

Yea I know. This bike did not come with side cases, and I did not get matching side and top box locks with the bike. Don't know if the original owner has them or not. One problem with a used bike. So what I did is pulled the tumbler out of the plastic housing of the new side case lock and stuck the ignition key in the lock and ground the one piece of brass that was not pulled down by the key. Sounded crazy to me but worked perfect.
