2018 1000 EZ start and immobilizer key

In the owners manual for bike it mentions a flashing blue light when you turn the key on for the immobilizer key

You can clearly see it in this video at roughly 4:58 seconds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yhcma8XZ4vI

My new bike does not have a light there and the EZ start does not seem to exist either. I have to pull the clutch in to get it to start (when the bike is in neutral)

Would love to see some pictures of the where the key goes in to see if anyone else has the light!

North American models don't have immobilizers. Easy Start has nothing to do with the clutch switch. The clutch switch is a safety device to keep the bike from lurching forward when starting in gear. A single stab of the start switch is all that is required to start the bike. You don't have to hold the button down until the engine catches.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

Pray to Gawd that you don't get an immobilizer. i hit a deer with my 800ST BMW and the immobilizer was rendered immobile.
One more modern POS that is not needed on a motorcycle.
Whatchu gonna do when the battery in your pocket device dies? Call yo momma?

Easy start allows you to start the bike without pulling the clutch in so I'd say it has something to do with it...

"The Suzuki Easy Start System simplifies start up for the GSX-R1000R rider as the ECM automatically cranks the engine for 1.5 seconds (or until it starts) with a momentary press of the starter button. There is no need to pull in the clutch lever if the transmission is in neutral. Once started, the ECM will control the electronic throttle bodies to maintain a consistent engine idle speed, whether the engine is cold or warm."

For some reason the Vstrom 1000 did not get the easy start but the 650 did... at least in Canada

No battery in your pocket device. The manual for my bike says I should have a light (if equipped) by the key, the light is supposed to flash when you turn on the bike. I don't have the light and looking at other 2018's in Canada on Craigs list none of them do. Your thing of the keyless start.

The immobilizer is the chip that is on your key, so you have to buy a key from the dealer if you lose one. If you lose both you have to replace the ECM. Im actually glad I don't have that lol the easy start would have been nice though

The immobilizer on the BMW is a ring in the key switch that senses the device that pretends it's a key. In any case it's unneeded technology.
My friends newer Jeep and another which a Kia, Subaru what ever has the same thing. A prox switch device that is suppose to save you from the effort of using a key to turn on the vehicle. Pardon my Latin, but bugger that! Those replacement devices if your dog eats the original are really expensive too. Not some 6 dollar key at ACE Hardware.

The Cycle World article I read didn't mention clutchless starting, only the single push.

Yup! says right in the manual if you lose both keys you have to get a new ECM! plus a key, labor, etc. One neat feature of it though is that if you do lose a key you can take the other key and the bike to the dealer and they can deactivate the lost key so it will not start the bike anymore. I like that but overall i'm glad it's not on my bike

650 - Suzuki Cycles - Product Lines - Cycles - Products - V-Strom 650 - 2017 - DL650XA
Addition of Suzukiís rider-adjustable Traction Control* system, Easy Start system, Low RPM Assist feature, plus ABS** technology makes a great motorcycle, really incredible.

1000 - Suzuki Cycles - Product Lines - Cycles - Products - V-Strom 1000 - 2018 - DL1000XA
no mention at all of easy start, which I think confirms in North America the 1000's do not get the easy start.
