Air box backfire remedy?
I picked up a 2014 DL100A recently. Just wanted to update the forum with an air box backfiring issue.
I noticed on cold start up, I was getting an occasional air box backfire. It usually went away once warmed up, I didnít think much of it. Also, an occasional stall but super rare. I read a number of people are/were having this problem. I took the bike to the dealer about a month ago, they performed the factory ECU placement under recall, did not fix the issue.
Last week, I removed the tank and airbox and installed a power commander FC. Install went fine, no problems however I noticed when replacing the air box, the boot connecting the air box to the throttle body was damaged. Looks like it had been installed improperly, actually folded over on itself and clamped in place. I pulled the box off and re-inspected it. Judging from the crease marks and dust pattern around it, Iím guessing it was like this for quite some time.
So hereís the great news, Iíve been riding around for a few days now, no backfire. So what was it? I donít know if the power commander helped solve the problem (itís definitely running a little richer map than stock) or fixing an obvious air leak did the trick. Both maybe?
Anyway, I just want to put it out there in the V-Strom universe in case the info can help someone else.
