Looking for help in SE Idaho

I’m from B.C., Canada- in Lava Hotsprings ID for next 2 weeks, I need to replace my sprockets and drive chain. I don’t have all the tools I need including a 36 mm rear axle socket and drive. Is there anyone in the area near Pocatello or even northern Utah who might be able to help me out on this?

Ask every VStrom rider you see if they have a socket to fit. I always travel with mine.

An adjustable wrench will do for the rear axle nut.

I"d be wary of using an adjustable wrench if the nut is tightened to factory spec or beyond. If that seems to be your only resort, watch the wrench/nut interface carefully and stop applying force at the first sign of slipping. then go to plan b, whatever that might be...

GW recommended a value of 55 ftlb. It's held with a cotter pin so it doesn't have to be elephant tight.
I've been using a 15/16th socket or a 31/32 socket for a long time with no problems. that's on an 04 Wee axle nut.

That's a nice offer. It also kind of makes me want to break down in Western Oregon.

BJJ,

How are things shaping up for you there? Not sure the private message I tried to send went anywhere.

I've got the tools you need in my panniers. I'm in Tri-Cities, SE Washington State, am heading to Gillette, WY this weekend. If you're still in need I could route through your location and lend you a hand.

Do you have an exact fit new chain or will you need a chain breaker/riveter too?
