Gear position indicator ‘delay’

Gents, long time lurker, first time poster...

Went out on the bike and whenever I shifted into neutral the gear position indicator would go blank. It’s only blank when in neutral, but oddly the neutral light still works as normal. The revs at neutral are also slightly higher than normal.

I did all the usual things, and have cleaned behind the front sprocket cover where I believe the gear position sensor is. This seems to have worked, to an extent.

It now shows neutral, but only after a delay of 3 to 4 seconds, rather than instantly as when working properly. The revs are also higher than they should be at idle until the N is shown on the gear position indicator.

Any thoughts? Bit stumped here. Bike is a 2016 with 17,000 miles on.

The GP switch (assuming this is Gear Position) is located inside the clutch assembly, you would need to take that apart to replace it, but it may be a wire connecting to it that has a loose connection since it seems to be working most of the time.

Might be time to get a manual if you do not have one and see if you can trace the wires coming out of there.

Any warranty left on the bike?

Ensure your earth cable is clean and tight at the motor, there was a recall for this on early bikes, did you have it done ?

Check your battery connections (this should be done from time to time anyway) and any other connectors for corrosion.
