Rear rack weight limit

So I got a 50 liter top trunk an would like to know about your experiences with large trunks mounted to the stock rack. This is my first trunk, I'm usually a st. Oll top duffle guy.

Do you have the givi rack with the extra support underneath?

There's been instances discussed here where the plastic OEM rack has broken. As Bugzy mentions, there is Givi rack that has an extra support tied to the seat frame that takes some of the load off of the plastic rack. That's what I have along with a 47 liter case, and I've carried a watermelon in it without any issue. Aside from weight, you also need to keep in mind the terrain you will be riding on. A heavy weight on a relatively smooth tarmac will do much better than the same weight off road or on an unimproved fire road or gravel road. I'm just about all on-road, so my setup works fine for me.

My bike has been fine on 3 trips up North with a 57 liter box on the back, probably 30 to 50 lbs in it. Lots of gravel and bumps too. Try to keep light stuff in it though, and don't fill it up too full.

The listed weight limits are lawyer talk. Your experience may vary.
A large box may entice you to carry more stuff though.

Just mounted up a used 45 liter monolock and made some supports down to Rick's saddle bag guards

Any close-up pix to see exactly how the supports fit to the racks? Thanx.

Just bolted to the side of stock rack and bolted to Rucks soft bag plate. Also put in some spacers made from some uhmm I had lying around placed between free space under back of rack and the rear fender cover so no flex area anymore.

I like my weight low and to the sides. I quit running a top box after the Strom and I think the bike handles a lot better....could be my imagination though.
