Heated grips.

I just got the kit in the mail. What should I wire it to that's keyed? Should I use the hot wire going to the cigarette lighter port? I have my satellite radio, bluetooth transmitter, and phone charger to run off that too. Will that be ok or find another hot wire to mooch off of?

I would suggest adding an auxiliary fuse box, typically under the seat. Set it up to run off a relay that is powered by a keyed/switched power line like the rear light since the wire runs under the seat on its way to the rear of the bike. Then I'd suggest running your various electrical farkles off that fuse box. Each could have a dedicated circuit. There is some good electrical advice for doing stuff like that over at Electrical Items - LDRiders

Which ones did you get? Oxfords come with a harness that goes right to the battery. Automatically shuts off when bike is off for more than a few min.

I got the Tusk ones. My '06 came with them already on it and they work great. Nice idea on the fuse box.

You guys have me thinking. I scored a big bag of relays off Ebay last spring. I can tap into the tail light wire to trip the relay. Then I can wire it directly through the relay from the batery to the grips. Then it won't matter if the tail light circuit doesn't have enough juice. All it's got to do is trip the relay when the key turns on. I can do all my gee-gaws on that. Add some fusable links or a fuse block and the possibilities are endless.

I know on my '18 it says 36W max next to the 12V outlet. That's only 3W of power.

There is a heated grip plug buried under the tank somewhere.

The Cig Lighter port is only a 3A fuse, it will blow as soon as you turn the heaters on.

I always attach to a fuse block under the seat, a very useful addition to the bike.

Eastern Beaver has a great kit, PC-8 I think, with a pre-made harness if you want. I have also used Fuzebox on two long term bikes with no failures.

I don't know about your particular model, but the old Vees have a dedicated plug in the harness near the radiator just for heated grips. Maybe yours does too. Surely someone out there knows if it does.

I had my airbox off last week(On 2018 1000) and saw a spare plug-in under it. Pretty sure its for the grips.
