Wet air filter - DL 1000 2016

Been away for a while, but now I need your advice.

Last night, my brother was messing with his DL1000, because he is having some cold star issues.
We found the air filter to be quite wet. You can not blow the dust using compressed air. It was completely stuck to the filter element.
The is no oil odor on the filter, so we have figured out it's water.
If I recall correctly, the same happened with his previous 2014.

I've never experienced anything similar with my 2014 DL 650, or my previous GSR 750.
My air filters have always come out dry and 'blowable'.
We constantly ride together, so both bikes share the same weather conditions.

Any thought? Hopefully a solution?

Washing habits? Parking place?

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.

Both bikes are parked side by side, under roof, so no problem there.
However, I know he likes to wash the bike more than I do, and he spends a good amount of time doing it, but I've never seen him spraying the bike from underneath.
And after his last wash, the bike has been ridden several times.

Looking at the air box design, air intake comes from a read facing tube, just above the front cylinder.
In the Glee, the air intake is located on the top cap of the air box.
Could rain or splashed water make its way up to the Vee2 air intake?

I'm rather curious about this 'wet filter' thing happening to someone else in this forum. If no one else is suffering from that, I'd consider the washing habits as an option.

I'm out of ideas there except to say I'm against spraying water on the painted parts of the bike. I limit water application to cloths and a low pressure hose on the engine following degreasing.

I just talked to my brother, about his washing habits, and the only way to get hose water into the air box would be if you sprayed from the bottom rear, with high pressure.

Among things we've thought, how about steam produced by the engine and/or exhaust when it gets wet? When it's raining and you stop at a red light, you can see the steam going up around your legs...

Again, I'd love to know from other Vee2 owner about this issue.

I wash my bike sometimes with a hose, but do not remove the tank and look at the filter after. Water would evaporate pretty fast so it would have to be something he did within the past 5 hours.

Maybe a ghost passes through the bike and leaves some of its ectoplasm on it.

Are you absolutely sure its water? Did you let the filter set out long enough for it to dry?

Anyway, back to business.
As I was watching my brother play with his bike I opened the new air filter (Suzuki OEM) and its element is oily.

Looked for the older filter and realized it's also oily. This filter was sitting all day on top of several paper sheets in the house solar, 'drying out' but it still feels wet. Now I'm pretty certain it's not water.
