Is this Vee a good deal?

Hi

Im getting a Vee that much is decided, but which Vee and is it a good deal?

Given i have zero vstrom experience and only a mere 18 months biking experience (on an SV 650s k3 (1st big bike) I figure you good folks can help me out.

The one currently in my sights is a 2015 Vstrom 1000 Desert edition. its got 6500 miles on the clock and looks quite tidy, Its from a dealer and hes asking 7k for it. (Also i think this model should have a sat nav with it but it isnt on this bike.

Ill be test riding it on Wednesday, Any tips on what to look for so i dont end up with a lemon?

Pic of said Vee attached.

Cheers

Ty

I'd check around and see what V-strom's are selling for in the area. I know around here (north east USA) you can't give them away. Great bikes that hold little value. Buddy has a real nice 2012 DL650 w/ 22,000 on the clock and some nice farkles and can't get a call priced at sub $4,500.00.

The 650/1000cc variants are a personal choice. I chose a 650 because I don't haul a pillion and would rather have higher fuel economy. Also talking to people who owner or rode both back to back the 650 doesn't give up much to its bigger brother.

Your thought about a st/nav, Only BMW offers a built in and is expensive. many of us use a GPS . I prefer Garmin and just got a 2589 for $129 shipped from GPS city.
It has lifetime maps and traffic info.
7K is probably a decent price but it's a dealer, offer less and negotiate. Check Kelly Blue Book and nada.

Im in the UK, and a quick look over the local prices that seems about fair. in fact the cheapest comparable dealer price i could find was 150 over the 7000. so that Looks good, now for the test ride, fingers crossed it doesn't ride like a bag of hammers.

Comparing with the SV650 it will likely be rougher than the 650 you are used to. The 1l engine is not as smooth but wants to throw you off, more torque.

Given the low mileage there should not be much wrong with it. Try to understand who owned it and who maintained it and if it was dropped (bent foot pegs and bent or cracked foot peg mounts).

Make sure all the recalls were done properly. Some bikes had the motor control unit replaced, if this one had that done, the better. If not watch out how smooth the low speed throttle response is, a common complaint by some for the earlier bikes of the V2. May not be an issue with the 2015.

Looks pretty clean from that pic. Are you sure it's a 2015? I didn't think they made Desert Khaki that year but surly I could be wrong. Mine is a 2014 in Desert Khaki.

As mentioned above, check to see if the ECU has been updated. If it hasn't, will the dealer warranty it for a reasonable time period? Most don't seem to have issues; mine doesn't. But if you get one that stalls out when it shouldn't that can be a safety problem.

Ah...a 2015 (Any 2014 and later) is a V2, completely different bike from a Vee (2002 to 2013).

I hope you get that one at a great price and really enjoy it.

I think it is a good deal. Make sure the wiring harness recalls have been done. Also see if they will let you buy a extended warranty for a year. Should be around 600 bucks. It might be worth the insurance/piece of mind.

7k would be a good price but with a dealer you have to dig deeper. Some charge almost 1k for destination, prep, inspection, storage who the hell knows what else. 7K can turn into 9k before you know it! I got a 2014 with 2500 miles on it for 7k OTD in January of this year but that was a private seller. Don't pull the trigger too quick there are plenty around the country that ship for under 500. Mine didn't have side bag but has everything else.

Sounds like a decent deal. Dealer in Knox wants $8477 for the same bike w/5K on it:
