Blown 30A Fuse - Twice!

After about 130 miles of rough, rocky roads and lots of washboard, deep sand and silt beds, Rick gardens and the like I picked up my bike (with help) and turned the key ... nothing. We quickly saw that the 30A fuse had blown. We replaced it with the spare. All was good for another 5 miles. After getting the bike up after another drop the other 30A fuse was blown. This was in Baja, not that it matters.

Any ideas as to why?

Sounds like a short in the harness somewhere or a bad ground ...

I am not sure what year your bike is but if it is a 2014 or 2015 has it had the recall work done? I believe part of the recall was to repair and/or stop the wiring harness from chaffing. I don't know that this could short out and cause the 30 amp fuse to go but something to look into.

My Opinion:
Vee or V= DL1000 before 2014
Vee2 or V2 = DL1000 2015 to 2019
Vee3 or V3 = DL1050 2020 to?

My Stroms:
2006 DL650: 202,000 km 125,500 miles, Sold
2012 DL650 139,500+ km, 86,700+ miles. Sold
2015 DL1000 New July 2015 205,000+ km, 127,000+ miles.

This can help preventing from cars pulling out in front of you (SMIDSY)
SMIDSY detailed report.

I did take the bike in for inspection due to the recall but the dealer said the wiring harness was fine. However, that was 40k miles ago and the bike got beat up pretty bad down there so Yes, I was wondering if it was related to the recall too.

The harness should have been replaced no matter how it looked, isn't that what a recall is?

No it was only replaced if it was already damaged.Otherwise they just rerouted and protected the existing harness
