OEM Battery went Kaput

Surprisingly, my stock battery gave up the ghost even with tender loving winter care. The replacement upgraded capacity Yuasa YTX14H-BS battery fits perfectly.

Was your original a Yuasa?

And we're you in the habit of using the onboard voltmeter, if so, did it give you any indication of charge failure over time?

Nope, not a Yuasa...a standard FTX14-BS. The manufacturer escapes me at the moment. I never look at the voltmeter to be honest.

My 2013 V-Strom 650 stock battery died after only 1 winter on a battery tender as well. Suzuki wouldn't pay to replace it and refused to say why.

I had to install a Yuasa out of stupidity! I winterized my bike in Missouri, moved to South Carolina and couldn't find my battery. Bought a Yuasa, found my OEM battery a week later. I now have an extra battery.

Reviving an old thread here... I'm looking to replace my battery, and the Yuasa YTX14H-BS Battery on the Amazon site says it does NOT fit the 2014-16 DL1000, it directed me to the Yuasa Gyz Maintenance Free Battery YUAM716GH. I'm hoping Amazon is wrong, I'd like to get the "high performance 240 cold cranking amps" of the YTX14H-BS.

You might want to use the search box here to look for "GYZ16H". Two or three years ago I made a post or two about this battery, which I installed in my '07 Wee. As expected it was a bit tall (I think it was sized for a Vee, height-wise), but it worked fine. Seat closed, etc.

I researched and bought the GYZ16H, in hopes of upgrading from what I viewed as low-end batteries, but I sold the Wee to a friend within a year or so of battery replacement. Guy didn't ride the bike much at all, and almost certainly didn't use a battery tender over winter (I don't know if that really matters), and he reported later that he was having battery trouble and he might have had to replace it. I'd imagined it would last at least 5 years, but maybe it didn't. Regarding size and fit though, my old GYZ16H thread might be of interest to you.

2007 Wee. Blue. Bought at 5K miles. Sold at 32K+ miles. Gone but not forgotten.

2012 Wee2 Adventure. Black. Bought at 26K miles. Now 46K+. Love it!

GYZ16H vs YTX14H-BS

Yes, GYZ16H is the battery I was directed to on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Yuasa-YUAM716...6PC2VD1QM0F3W1

It does appear to be a little stronger (and $13 more) than the YTX14H-BS "high performance" one at the beginning of this thread:
https://www.amazon.com/Yuasa-YUAM6RH...B000N5ST3C#Ask

Thanks for directing me to your post on the Wee forum. I think I'll be going for the GYZ16H after all. My stock battery has been on the charger for a couple days, shows 12.5 volts initially, but starts to drop quickly. I had to get towed the other day because it showed 10.4 and wouldn't start after stopping for a break during a ride. I must confess I haven't been good about keeping it on the trickle charger. Lesson learned.
