5.3 gallons my butt....

I was at less than 1 mile till empty. Did 500 miles today.. This was mostly 55/65 mph backroads. This is the best mpg I have ever squeezed out of this bike. Those guys that say that they get better than 48 are crazy. If I wouldn't have done the last 40 miles on the freeway at 85 it might have pulled 45.. Maybe 46 but thAts it.

Oh this was also done entirely 2 up. And I put 5.6 gallons in a 5.3 gallon tank filling it all the way up to the brim

You might want to reconsider filling the fuel tank to the brim. Here's what can happen if it should over flow:

I have seen 22kpl on my bike which is close to 50mpg, but mostly I am right around the mark you said, 43mpg is around 18kpl.

Something else to keep in mind, on my bike I went 40km after the bike went to empty, so -40, and then it ran out of gas, unfortunately the gas station was another 10km away.

Apparently he was filling the bike with the engine running...... not smart

5.3 gallons my butt....

When I seen this title I thought for sure you were gonna argue the fact that the tank is capable of holding 5.3 gal. I don't ever get it that empty to see if I could squeeze it in, but I do know that you have to spend a little time to get it that full and hold your bike perfectly upright while doing it.

I would have agreed with you about the MPG's but the other day I was averaging 48.9 for the first time ever. I usually get 36.6 but for some reason when me and another inmate here go riding I seem to get the highest MPG's I've ever seen on both my 650 n 1000. 60 on my 650 XT when I average 46-47.

I fill it to the brim every times I know exactly what was put in it for mpg calculations and range. With the engine off of course

No I was arguing that the tank is bigger than Suzuki said. And my mileage was only this good riding with a Harley on roads only I know and didn't want him to fall behind. I normally get 35/36 when I'm with my sporting buddies these guys on here that claim normal mileage of close to 50 j can't see because I know how the bike performs to get those numbers. And a brisk pace is not in the mind..

My experiences are similar to yours too, Vdub.
I have gone 8 miles further after my range clicked to zero. I have also put 5.6 gallons in. There is an extra 1/2 gallon in you keep letting it burble down after it is full.
Mileage is usually in high 30s as well. Unless I tootle along at 60 in 6th gear.

best mileage i've ever got on my bike was 2 up... only think i can think of is i ride a lot more conservative with my wife on the back and that more then makes up for the extra weight/drag. It was right on 48MPG. My avg is about 43 MPG
