Question Bset place to make an ignition connection?

I've recently bought my 2014 DL1000a to replace a 2012 DL650AL2 and I'm loving it.
The bike came with Givi S310 lights fited and a Scorpion exhaust :-)

My issue is that the lights are wired direct to the battery and stay on after the ignition is switched off. Seeing as I'm a numpty when it comes to electrics can anyone advise on where the best point to make a live ignition connection is?

The bike is also having a new ECU fitted this week - no arguments, I wrote to Suzuki UK and they arranged contact through the local dealer

Any white wire with a green stripe comes on with the ignition on. A brown wire comes on when the ignition is on or in P(ark). The former can be found entering the fuse box or at the large connector in the fairing. The latter feeds the tail light. Basic V-Strom Wiring 101

Only use them to power a relay. They can't handle the load of the lights directly. Understanding Relays (PDF Link)
Use the bike wire to control a relay and use the relay to carry power to the lights from the battery.
DerStrominator and NVDucati like this.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

Please vote in the poll on what Strom(s) you have at
