torn between vstrom 1000 and versys 650

I am torn between a new 2014 vstrom 1000 and a 2016 versys 650 lt. The price is a wash, although the versys lt has bags and hand guards standard. I like the look of the versus better but wonder if the highway comfort (500 miles of freeway in a day) of the vstrom will outweigh the handling of the versus. any opinions?

the versys should have sharper handling, given it's lighter weight and 17" front wheel. The big Strom will surprise, though, in the twisties. For 500 miles of highway? Big Strom all the way.

I would have to go with the V-Strom here but if it were 1000 vs. 1000 I would go with the Versys and only because of the engine. I'm a speed freak and that engine is bad ass.

I had a 2008 Versys, and now have a 2014 DL1000. The Versys was a fantastic bike. Light, flickable, and good low end torque for a parallel twin. But for the same money, the DL1000 would easily be my choice. The DL1000 handles surprisingly well for being a heavier bike. And power isn't even comparable. I'd rather be on the DL on a trip, on the highway, and anything but the twistiest roads. I'd rather take the Versys to the track (it's a blast), and it would make a better commuter and grocery getter.

You can get a set of Shad side bags with racks for $600, or Givi boxes and a rack from Motostrom.it for $700.

I changed the front fork springs, added 2 clicks of preload to the rear, upgraded the front brake calipers to 4 piston tweaked the F.I with a Teka Pro and changed the tires to Michelin PR3's...It will cruise all day long at 140km/h, will easily hit 230km/h even with the givi tall windshield with my bloated 6'2" 215lb ass on it and will drag the pegs through the twisties..I have never ridden the Versys, but I sure like my Vstrom..its a very flickable platform.

Why Motorcycles? Because Golf, Soccer, Football and Baseball only require One Ball

I have a 14 vstrom 1000 got it left over for a great price. you cant beat this bike. i do have a klr650 too and i love that but i will be selling it because i dont want to tend to 2 bikes anymore. the vstrom has great torque and on the highaway it just moves right along. I have never driven a versys before but they are nice. If i was goin to decide between the vstrom 1000 and the versys 650 hands down would def be the vstrom 1000 but if you were talking about 1000 to 1000 then thats a different story. you would have to break things down and see which one would be better for u.

V Strom over the Versys hands down. I had an '09 Versys and only kept it one year. Vibrations and rattles like mad, cheap build quality, and nowhere near enough power.

If your a practical guy, you buy bikes that save you money, and "almost" provide as much fun as other bikes. You want better gas mileage, and you are not one of those "look at me" kind of guys, then get the 650 and have no regrets.

If you are a hooligan in disguise, someone that doesn't believe in getting old, someone that isn't scared of the odd wheelie, and you enjoy being the first vehicle at the front of that merge lane despite the guy beside you thinking the same thing, and your bike can actually do it for you. You love rolling on the throttle and feeling that "wow" in your gut as you watch the cars disappear in your rear view mirror, then get the 1000.

One thing for sure, if you buy the 1000 you won't wonder if you should have bought the 650 but the reverse is not true.

I sat on the Versys 1000 in a shop and the seat pushed me forward into the tank. Got the '14 DL1000 and it's a great choice!

Big Strom. That 1037 cc's pulls like a tractor! Get a taller windscreen and cruise for miles happily.
