Folding Brake Pedal

While going over my 2014 V2, I discovered that the brake pedal has been bent, likely when I put the bike down going uphill on an icy stretch in December.

It is ride-able , but unnatural feeling. I've ordered the OEM replacement part at a reasonable $75 CDN and will bend the current pedal back into shape as a spare.

Bending the pedal got me thinking about replacing it with a pedal with a folding tip, like what is available for the clutch pedal from Touratech and SW Motech.

I searched and searched but the only folding brake pedal I could find for the Strom was for the Wee. Until today. Being the "never say die" type, I continued to search until I found a Facebook entry that displayed a beautifully-made folding brake pedal for the V2.

I did a search on the author, Carapaks, and it turns out to be a manufacturer in Poland. I contacted them regarding price and warranty. Bit of a shocker.

170 Euros to deliver in Europe. I've asked about shipping to Canada. Stainless steel with a two year warranty. Pricey, for sure.

Are the 650 and 1000 brake interchangeable possibly? Maybe you can just buy the 650's pedal? Worth checking part numbers on a fiche

It would be too easy for the 650 and 1000 to be interchangeable. However, that is not the case. The 650 pedal is nothing like the 1000. Touratech also indicates this on their 650 pedal product page.

The pedal off my Wee is almost identical to look at as the one on my V2.

The Wee pedal is less than half an inch shorter but the loop for the brake light switch is closer to the pivot point than the one on the V2, a small hole will take care of the light switch.

The only question is; is the hole for the pivot point the same size ? to my eye yes it is but I will not get time to prove it until next week unless someone here has the information ???

I have my money on them being the same and interchangeable.

First; recommend a brake snake to help keep things in place when the worst happens.

Second; a few days ago I ordered some cheap folding gear leavers from ebay with a plan to adapting them to my V2, time will tell.

Three; The OEM brake pedal from a Wee will fit the V2, it will just needs a hole for the brake light switch spring, as for after market pedals they should also fit but ??????

The upper pedal is the V2 and the lower is from a Wee.

Looking at the pedal on my V2, I think the Wee pedal spring location actually makes more sense. You can see in this photo the spring is not vertical, but more like a 20% deviation. A bit hard to see from this angle.

Can you try mounting the Wee pedal on the V2 to see how close it is to the right engine case? The bend in the pedal is not as severe as the V2 which might be a good thing. Last year I had a tip-over that bent the right peg bracket and it was contacting the bend in the brake lever causing it to almost drag the brakes, but luckily didn't, but I had to disconnect the rear brake light switch to continue as it was on solid.

I should have told you that I did fit the Wee pedal to the V2 and it works as it should.

Yes the pedal is a little closer to the motor in stock trim.

I have not yet fitted my bash plate so that will need to be looked at when the time comes.

I can't see any reason that a Wee pedal could not be fitted to a V2.

The little bend in the back of the pedal might cause a problem. The V2 one is straight and pushes the hydraulic rod straight up, but the Wee pedal will offset this.

Edit: nope, the push up will be from the same place, the bend actually puts it correct. It is just starting from a different spot. Should be fine. Not sure how the Touratech folding brake lever looks in comparison to this, it is hard to tell from photo's.

So a folding tip brake for a 650 will fit a 2014 1000?

Along the lines of this topic, does anyone know if the brake pedal is the same for the <2011 and 2012+ Wee?
