Vee2 fork spring rate

sdmdm8 was kind enough to send me a set of stock fork springs from his Vee2 so that I could rate them.

Broken up per inch of travel:

0.73
0.73
0.74
0.87
0.95
0.95
0.95

So basically a dual rate spring, 0.74 for the first 3", 0.95 for the last 3", with an inch of transition zone.
Somewhat on the soft side for a 500lb bike, but usable (if not ideal) for a lot of people.

I weigh 150# and I believe that is what the 0.95 rate is based upon. Race Tech has me calculated at 0.90 FWIW

If it was a straight 0.95 then it would be perfect for guys in the 200-250lb range. 0.90 is definitely good for you, and the stock springs are certainly close enough.

The progressiveness of the stock springs causes some problems, but I think for most people they will work ok.

Nice information fellers. I'm at 210 and like to load it up for a couple weeks of touring. It sounds like going to a straight 0.95 would be good for me.

thank you for posting this! I find them a lot better then the stock ones in my 650. I'll likely replace mine when the first service is due. I take it you will be selling some straight rate springs at some point?

I found on my 2006 DL650 there were recommendations of getting .95 for my weight (which was probably around 240 lbs at the time.) I got them and found they were much too stiff for road work on rough roads. Might have been great for the track, I went down to .9 or .85 (don't recall which) and found it much better for rougher road use.

I weight a bit more than 240 now and have to say for these same roads I'm riding on the spring rate on my 2015 DL1000 actually feels pretty good although I do have to soften the damping a bit.

I know it's opinion and there are different strokes for different folks, but it just seems to me the a lot of the spring rates recommended are a bit much.

My Opinion:
Vee or V= DL1000 before 2014
Vee2 or V2 = DL1000 2015 to 2019
Vee3 or V3 = DL1050 2020 to?

My Stroms:
2006 DL650: 202,000 km 125,500 miles, Sold
2012 DL650 139,500+ km, 86,700+ miles. Sold
2015 DL1000 New July 2015 205,000+ km, 127,000+ miles.

This can help preventing from cars pulling out in front of you (SMIDSY)

At 230lbs in my birth clothes, the suspension feels really good. I have set the sag and had no problem getting it right without maxing out preload at either end.
