When I pull up to a stoplight or stop sign the bike doesn't return to idle rpm range. It hovers at about 3k rpms. If I rev the bike and release the throttle the Rpms drop to normal idle range. The throttle appears to be seated where it should be and not hung up or dragging on the handguards or switches. What may be the cause? Thanks in advance for any advise.
When you rev it up to 5000 or so in neutral and gently let go does it hang up at 3000? Can you twist the throttle back to normal RPM? If so, the first place I would look is the throttle tube. Do you have heated grips? If so do you know what make/kind they are? The kind of heated grips that tape onto the throttle tube where you slide the grip over can melt and distort the plastic throttle tube causing it to drag.
Thank you teevee and Tomrux. I will look at both and post the outcome.
