Rattle sound

I am sorry to sound like a broken record because I have read alot of rattle forums. This doesn't sound like the clutch basket thing. It happens when holding steady speed or decelerating, sounds like shaking a bucket of nuts and bolts. It almost sounds like it might be small exhaust backfires that im hearing through the front header, but I just worry it might be something like a loose timing chain? Not super familiar with the inner workings of the DL1000 yet.

Mine is a 2012 with 30k miles.

Have a good look at your crash bars if you have them.

Every time I have been asked to find the source of a noise on a Strom it has been the crash bars.

Fit a ratchet strap to the bars and pull tight, then ride to see if anything has changed.

This can be done with many parts of the bike to help find the source.

Good Luck

Thanks, they seem tight, but I will try that.

I coincidentally had a rattle that came from light brackets mounted off the crash bars. I found the source of the noise last night

My '03 has a similar (based on your description) rattle from the front end. Sounds like it could almost but not quite be under the front header pipe. Mine turned out to be the 'bridge of the nose' between the headlights, right at the very bottom. Try just tapping at the bottom of the plastic headlight separator all the way at the bottom and see if your getting some clatter from that plastic vibrating.

When I got my 'Strom I had an terrible rattling noise. Turns out the horn had come off its bracket and was laying on top of the front cylinder head. Simple fix for it.
