[QUOTE=NateHarris;5082642]So I have a DL650 that I love, but my brother (Harley only guy) saw the trip I took on my bike (with my buddy on his DL650)
and wanted to do the trip too. So I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a Vstrom for him. Long story short we found a fantastic deal on craigslist. We picked up a 2002 DL1000 for $1300! The left cowling is cracked from falling over but that's the only damage we can find on the bike. Better yet it has just over 10,000 miles on it! Crazy deal, right? If you care to read the whole story, it's here.
Here's a couple pics of the bike just to stick the knife in a little further
That is a real find, I had one of the first models, replacement for my brilliant TL1000S, never quite as good, comfortable but without the raw edge. I have a set of Rennegade exhausts off mine looking for a new home. Sadly distance could be a costly factor. Jorge used my bike as the prototype. Good days at Brands Hatch! Sadly he moved back to Portugal.
Now that Ford Anglia sitting there takes me back, is it a 105E? Pretty rare in UK and I bet even rarer out your way. I had a lot of experience with the Ford Anglia.
I learnt to drive and took my driving test in one of those, kangaroo starts and crunched gears, passed first time though. My friend had a much modified 105E. He was one of the timing officials at Santa Pod, he managed to put a 2000E heavily modified Burton engine in his. Never raced it but boy did it go, suspension would remove fillings!
Another friend wanted to race an Anglia fibreglass bodied Rover 3.5/Buick 215 V8 engine. He fancied competing in the RVDRA (Rover V8 drag racing association). He spent two years collecting parts, using all his holidays scouring USA for tyres, nitrous, etc. He would fill containers and ship them back to Britain. Poor sod, he would never go out socialising, he was always broke. Long winter hours in his garage, and finally.
Year three, ready for its first run, Easter meeting Santa Pod, lane 2. Eyes on the Christmas Tree. The Tree counts down. Engine revs rise to a scream. Green! Lane one takes off, Lane 2 disappears in smoke and flames. Fire Marshalls reach for their appliances, he emerges from the flames somewhat charred, the car was all but swept off the start. He gave up drag racing after that, but did get the years prize for the best burn out!
