Question CHEC indication, but it starts and runs okay

My 02 Vee starts up fine, and runs, but on the starting sequence I get the CHEC message in the ODO area with five temp bars, then once I start it up, it goes away eventually and the temp gauge works fine.

This is different than all the other posts I have read on CHEC, as folks get that and the bike doesn't start due to a safety interlock issue.

the manual says to check the ignition fuse......it's fine, all the others are good too.

It says to check some couplers etc., but which ones.....any ideas which ones to look at and where they are located?

Here is one other odd symptom that may be linked to this problem: I have a GPS on aux power that is off the switched power (all installed by previous owner along with heated grips). My GPS constantly indicates it has lost power and then it recovers. I initially thought it just had a loose USB or the 12V auto plug was loose in the accessory socket. But those connectors look good and solid. I don't see any other issues with switched power.....I assume that would be headlamps, running and turning lights and brake lamps???

If the GPS/accessory wiring was loose could that be triggering the CHEC issue?

The ECM is getting an all clear signal from the safety devices. It then sends a signal to the display to clear the CHEC. That's what is not getting through. The usual culprit is a bad connection in a connector in the left side of the fairing between the fairing wiring and the frame's wiring harness.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014-2016 DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012-2016 DL650s

Thx Greywolf. I'll check as many connectors I can, the wiring diagram indicates there are two connectors between the instrument cluster and the main harness (I think).

I am considering pulling the fairings off to really inspect everything I can up front (old bike, new to me), there was a lot of accessory wiring done with a lot of new twist ties and jumpers with wire nuts (heated grips, accessory power and new front turn signals wired in my PO. Probably not a bad idea to clean it all up, check the integrity of all connectors, get some dielectric grease in them get rid of those wire nut mods.
