Arrow Yet Another "How's This Price for a Used Wee" Thread

Hello there.

I've been looking for a few weeks at the available bikes in my area, and the one that really shine through the rest is a 2004 V-Strom 650, with 52000km for $4800.

It is exceedingly well farkled (pretty much exactly what I'd like to see added to the bike). Here is an almost complete list, lifted from the listing :

- Jesse aluminuim hard Luggage
- Small Givi Top box
- MadStad windscreen brackets
- Accessory shelf mounted on brackets
- Windshield lip extender
- Heated grips
- Hand guards
- Fender extender
- Crashbars
- Highway pegs
- Centerstand
- Rox Handlebar Risers
- DL1000 Gel touring seat
- Automatic chain oiler
- Powerlet 12v plug
- Custom made dash with plug and switches
- Large offroad footpegs
- D.I.D gold x-ring chain (cost over $220)
- Cuiuse Control
- Adventure decals

The real question is is the price reasonable for the machine ? I know that ultimately it will depend on how well the bike has been maintained. Also, considering that I'm on the Right coast, choices can be few and far in between...

If you want to get eyes on the bike, pictures are on the Halifax page of Kijiji and search for "vstrom" : the listing is called Well Moded 2004 Suzuki V-Strom DL650.

Any input would be appreciated.

I think that might be a little high, even spite of being well farkled. I bought a 2004 650 with absolutely no farkles and paid around $5000....but that was in 2006 when the bike was only 2 years old. It had around 8000 miles on it at the time. I bought it in Michigan and imported it into Canada.

Do you know if the bike has been offroaded at all and how much?

I'm sure the owner expects to negotiate some for that year bike and the amount of miles. That amount of milage may scare some folks off but those of us "in the know", with high mile bikes, realize that the VStrom is good for MANY more miles that that...which could be an advantage for you. Depends on how well it has been maintained and treated.

It may be a bit high, but the farkles may outweigh that for you. I picked up my 2006 DL650 with 36,000 Kms., two and a half years ago, for $3600.00 from a young fellow near kentville. The bike was pretty well stock, it did have a set of Suzuki crash bars, a centre stand and new Metzler Tourance tires. Oddly enough the prices for the 650 have stayed static or even appeared to have risen a bit since then. If you like the bike and it has been maintained well you might try a reasonable offer. Good luck, you won't regret the Wee.

It likely needs new tires - the seller has a want ad out for them

So with new rubber and clean bill of mechanical health it could be a $4500 ride in NS. With old tires, I would say around $4k.

From the stickers, it's had some great adventures.

If you wanted to import like footloose, seller on this site in NC USA has an '09 for $5K with extras, around 5K miles and new tires. Would make for a nice ride home

If you ARE interested in importing a bike from the States at all, it not a terribly onerous process. You just have to do the research, know a few rules and make sure your paperwork is done.

I used this stickied thread on the GTAmotorcycle.com site (Great Toronto) for information and to get me started on the informtion needed when I did it 7 years ago. You could probably find a bike easily on the eastern seaboard. But you can't RIDE it home...the Canadian inspection wouldn't be done and it would have no plates. You'd have to drive and pick it up with a trailer or pickup truck.

That's too bad. Trucking the bike ruins part of the adventure

Thanks for the quick replies.

Flyingjib, that sounds like on hell of a find ! The day before I registered here to ask some questions, there was a 2008 Wee ABS almost as kitted-out as this one with about 28000km with an asking price of just over $6K. Went within a week. Wish I could have at least had a look at it, but since it was just outside of Halifax, I'm not too surprised it went that fast.

Normally, the accessories would do very little for me, since they shouldn't add all that much to the price when selling a bike. Like I said though, this one seems to be well kitted out.

I'm hoping to be able to go see it in person in the coming week (I'm working entirely too much until then). Because of the work, I don't think that going down to the US to fetch a sweet Wee would be feasible, unfortunately.

I've been educating myself on the V-Strom bikes in general, but are there some things/areas I should pay particular attention to when I manage to go see it ?

Hey man, in case you are interested I just stopped at the local Suzuki dealer in Martins Point. They have a 2011 DL650 on the floor for $6800.00. It's a trade in with minimal farkles but in excellent shape. The price may be slightly negotiable as they have had it for a while now. If you send me a Private Message I can provide dealer's name & contact info. Full disclosure, I have no interest in the dealership or the bike.

Thanks for that one, flyingjib !

Very good price. I wonder how low they'd go if I showed up with a fat wad of bills....

Realistically speaking though, it is a few thousand more than my budget. As tempting as it is...

And it really is.
