scenic 2 laners

Happy New Year to you all.
Am planning a trip into Pennsylvania in the spring.
Probably go tthrough Buffalo.
Anybody know any good scenic 2 laners down from Buffalo?
Not a big fan of expessway/turnpike

219 south from Buffalo isn't too hard to take - there's some nice small towns and decent cafes. Head west on I86/#17 to exit 17 (W Perimeter Rd). South to Warren or Oil City, and after that you're on your own...

If you're heading towards Pittsburgh I'd reccomend at least two things north of there.

North Country Brewing

Best burgers and microbrews I've had in my life.

And if you get a chance to ride through McConnells Mill State Park it's a gorgeous and pituresque ride.

The park features a deep scenic gorge with a restored watermill and a covered bridge at the bottom, accessible by a roadway that winds between large, room-sized boulders on the hillside.

My best advice to any young person is to write down the top ten things you want in a partner, then become that person.

I enjoy US-62

US-62 south from Buffalo is a great experience. I have travelled this road many times, on two and four wheels, and I always enjoy it a lot. The surface is pretty good, but the paint markings are often indistinct. Signs are adequate or better.

Hamburg, some ten miles from Buffalo, is a historic and scenic city, but it is small and quickly behind you. Then you go through several small towns and the Amish section (watch the shoulders for traces of horses). I pull in the clutch and glide silently past horses, because I cannot predict what a spooked horse will do.

In Pennsylvania, US-62 follows the Allegheny River for several miles. Depending on the season, this means various kinds of interesting scenery. US-62 bends west and crosses I-79 and then enters Ohio. There is another Amish section in Ohio, and it is particularly pleasant to ride through.

You can find what you need on US-62, whether you need food, fuel, or a campsite. I suppose I have used US-62 between sixteen and twenty-eight times, and I plan to use it twice in 2013.

Jstrom lives near US-62, and one of these years I will meet him.
