I enjoy US-62
US-62 south from Buffalo is a great experience. I have travelled this road many times, on two and four wheels, and I always enjoy it a lot. The surface is pretty good, but the paint markings are often indistinct. Signs are adequate or better.
Hamburg, some ten miles from Buffalo, is a historic and scenic city, but it is small and quickly behind you. Then you go through several small towns and the Amish section (watch the shoulders for traces of horses). I pull in the clutch and glide silently past horses, because I cannot predict what a spooked horse will do.
In Pennsylvania, US-62 follows the Allegheny River for several miles. Depending on the season, this means various kinds of interesting scenery. US-62 bends west and crosses I-79 and then enters Ohio. There is another Amish section in Ohio, and it is particularly pleasant to ride through.
You can find what you need on US-62, whether you need food, fuel, or a campsite. I suppose I have used US-62 between sixteen and twenty-eight times, and I plan to use it twice in 2013.
Jstrom lives near US-62, and one of these years I will meet him.
