Outaouais Moto Tours

I was at the Toronto Bike Show yesterday and I picked up a "Moto Tourism" map for the Outaouais region. Prominently featured on the front is V-Strom 1000. I was wondering if any of our members wanted to lay claim to being the Strommer on the map and the Web site?

For those who don't know, the Outaouais (despite being hard to spell) is a great place to ride. The Gatineau hills provide lots of twisty roads to explore and it's only 10 minutes from downtown Ottawa.

neat site and you can order the maps too

I'm in the Ottawa area as well, but as a new rider, haven't been to all of the tours they've got listed on the site. If you visit the links page, there's a link to order the maps (free) so I've done that. Some of the routes look like fun and now that the bike is parked I need to plan my next rides to keep from going insane <g>

I picked up a copy of that map at the Ottawa valley bike show last spring.

I also noticed the Strom on the front. Sadly it is not me.

Now about the map. I used it a few times in my tank bag, but found that it is far too weak, since it is printed on crappy glossy paper. As a result it came apart way too easily. Also I found that the highlighted tour information gave me a few problems finding routes sometimes since they seem to hide some of the details about which roads to take on the map. After getting a real map of quebec, I eventually figured out which roads the intended loop through Maniwaki was supposed to be.

It is a useful map to have in your collection, but I would find another map to carry with you on your bike.

Sadly there is likely to be no riding for the next while. I have yet to put my bike away, but it is unlikely to be used before spring. Glad I have a heated garage though.

haha, I wish.

A heated garage means my car and bike sharing a spot among the couple hundred other cars also parked at my apartment building. It is poorly lit, and I certainly wouldn't leave tools there. The only thing I leave down there is my oil drain pan and the half full gallon of used oil that hasn't been filled and recycled yet.

Ode for a seperate heated garage of my own

I was thinkin of doing a tour up that way now that the wife is getting her DL. I thought a 3 day tour up that way would be a great way to kill a weekend since I have been told the scenery and roads are a real pleasure. Since it is only a couple hours for us to get to Ottawa it is more just a deciding we are going to do it than anything else at this point. It will have to wait till spring though... she won't ride in the cool weather while I was out for about 5 hrs yesterday just ridding around.

We should really set up a couple good long rides this summer and get a bunch of us together.
