Update:

Wilberforce is ON!

Please call Mike and Allison at 1-705-448-1395 for a reservation. They will also need to know how many are coming so that they can plan the BBQ.

I'l be showing up Saturday evening, likely around 8pm, but would expect that most of you would come Friday night.

Mike and Allison will need to have a head count for the BBQ, I don't recall what they charged last year but everyone thought it was well worth the money! Try and save soem food for me!

..Tom

Hi all,

Since the 2010 thread was resuscitated and people have been asking about the 2011 Wilberforce meet I figured I should start a current thread.

I am heading out for a ride to the Grand Canyon starting Friday, Sept 2nd. I'm actually heading to the meet in Ohio first and leaving from there. I won't be back until September 18th or 19th. By the time I am back I will have used all my vacation time this year. I'm not entitled to another Saturday off so odds are I wouldn't be able to be there on the Saturday if we go ahead with it. I could come up after work on the Saturday and join you all for the BBQ and if anyone is around on the Sunday I would be happy to head out for a ride with you.

Mike and Allison, who own the Wilberforce camp, are happy to have it again and prepare a BBQ. I propose that the weekend of October 1st and 2nd be the date. It will likely be very cold at night but for me it doesnt' matter and I'll be sleeping in my tent.

So if it is to go ahead, we would need a couple of volunteers to organize it.

Who volunteers?

..Tom

ps: I'm on the road as of Friday Sept 2nd. I won't be on Stromtrooper as much as I normally am but will be checking in when I can, and some of the places I'll be at might not have cell coverage or internet.

I am thinking that we should all meet at V-Tom's while he is gone.

Party anyone?

Looks like I won't get to go this year after all.
Last two weeks of holidays ended up being scheduled for the first two weeks of October.
Consolation prize might be a run as far as Savannah, Georgia, before heading back up here, in time to start thinking of packing the bike up. -A hard decision. I will certainly miss the company, the riding around Wilberforce with everyone and the renowned BBQ spread put on by Mike and Alison, but I can't pass up the opportunity for a run to warmer climates to finish up the season.
Hope the weekend is a success and everyone stays safe.

Cheers

No one has stepped up to take over. I'm going to be home early so I'll see if I can trade my last holiday day for the Saturday. I'll let you know later this week,

Tom,
This gathering is in my sights as something to shoot for. I have someone to watch Reuben, so that piece is taken care of.

Because of the long distance I will be traveling, coupled with the much shorter days, a weather event, (like snow.....), could nix this plan of mine.

It is difficult for me to make a promise to you, (Because I sincerely don't like to break promises that I have made!), but my toes are hanging way over the "promise line".

Please keep me posted as plans unfold. Also, I might be interested in a roof over my head for this one, if it is available.

Thanks,

Barry

Well my manager won't give me the Saturday off so if yiu guys want to have it somone should step up for the Saturday. I would come uo after work on Saturday so I'd be there later in the evening.

Tom,
Did you try kicking your manager in his shins, and saying, "no, No, NO, you can't make me work on Saturday?"

Usually, that always works. Not only will you get the day that you asked for off, but also a WHOLE bunch of time afterwards too! I look at it as, more riding time!

Give it a try and let me know what happens, okay?

Tom,
I can't make it this year. Elenor and I made plans for that weekend month's ago. Elenor's new job is in retail and has to work every other Saturday. Being the new hire she ended up with all the long weekend Saturday's but one. Kind of suck's but in today's job market you have to take what you can get.

Where might this shin-dig be taking place? Maybe a specific city or gathering location? I need to see time wise if logistics will fit into leaving the family behind and heading into Canada.....Thanks!
I picked the following off VTom's post from last year. I believe it's at the same place again:

Start of Quote:

There is a lot of room for camping and a number of cottages that can be rented for the weekend.

It would be at the end of the un-named road that is just east of Grace lake Road on this map:

Google Maps

The location will be at Riverbank Cottages near Wilberforce, Ontario.

RiverBankWebsitePg2

I expect a lot of Canadian Strommers there and hopefully some of our neighbours from the south will show up.

End of Quote

I haven't checked the links.

I'll be trying to make it there as well.

Well if you guys want to just come to my place on the Saturday night (brng a sleeping bag and mayber an air mattress) that's okay with me! We can party, get totally shit-faced (or not!), and try and see if we can get our bikes off the side stands Sunday morning!

Otherwise I'll setup Wilberforce but someone has to step up and act as a bit of a host on the Saturday until I get there Saturday night.

I had planned to come with my son in tow, but an old friend has acquired a new bike after a few years, and wants to spend that weekend riding. We are going to be at my trailer ( about two hours from Wilberforce ). I will try to convince him to try to head up there for the Saturday, but just for the day.
I'll know for sure as the time draws closer.

Ehh, could somebody who knows the area PLEASE volunteer to play host! Right now this outing seems to be in limbo, and I'd really like to go.

...confused:.
Me too, confused, but I plan to go. A smaller group than this spring's ride is fine with me.

I'll show up sometime on the Friday (4 hours from home) and camp for the two nights, *hopefully* ride with others on Saturday and maybe some on Sunday before returning home.

I'm in no position to lead a ride - I don't know the area, and have little experience with group rides.

Other than that, I'm ready to help in some way. I haven't been to the campground, and don't know what's been arranged yet (BBQ, firewood, Sunday breakfast, how many are planning to show up, etc?). Is V-Tom the key to all this, or does someone else have some of this in hand?

Just asking. I don't know the history or protocols.

Corduroy Enduro

If Wilberforce seems like it is not a go you may want to join me at Gooderham this coming weekend for the Corduroy Enduro. Corduroy Enduro Should be a good spectacle with hundreds of enduro riders, an endurocross track end of the day Saturday for thrills and spills, free camping and Rally Connex is hosting a dual sport ride on Sunday to watch the action. I will be leaving on the Saturday AM from Pakenham, driving the Black Donald, 118 / 503 Monck Rd to Gooderham. This is not far from Wilberforce. Great ride out. Great Event / Great ride back.

The Rally Connex dual sport ride fee is $40.00 for the Sunday. info Rally Connex Adventures

If you guys want this event to happen I'll talk to Mike (who is my brother) and you guys are free to arange your own rides. I can send you last year's route. If I know ahead how many are coming we can phone the restaurant in Dorset andf make reservations if you want to lunch there.

I won't be able to come until later Saturday evening but would be happy to come at that point.

Go for it. I'll show up mid Friday and do the Meet and Greet. I will not lead a ride, since I ride even slower than Heavy, and I know that most people like to be a bit brisker than that. :green_lol:I will take any information regarding ride routes and past it on to anyone that feels like leading.
Restaurant in Dorset? Would that be the Flaming Grill?
Would your sister in law be doing the Saturday dinner like last year, or are we getting a bit late in planning for that?

#31 ·
I'll be in the area Friday late afternoon with couple of friends. Not with V Stroms this time (since we planned it earlier). Few other guys are coming Saturday. For Saturday we are planning to go on all 500 series (slower and faster group) including Calabogie Boogie (508), 507, 512, 514, 515 etc. Good few hours ride. I'm not as good as V Tom, but If you want to go all are more then welcome. After ride around 5PM we are planning to have a dinner in Vilno where they have $18 all you can it buffet.

Hey, it's starting to come together!!! Tom, how do you like your tent? It's the Eureka El Capitan, right? I ask, because it's at the top of the short list for our new tent.

Per Ardua, I checked the links and they work. I'll try to get the GPS coordinates off of Google Earth.

Here's a photo from last year showing a couple of the bikes and the camp ground office.

I would still like to come up if I am not busy that weekend. Maybe just for one night. And if I came, I could help lead or sweep a ride on Saturday (assuming I came for the Friday night) as I know the area and roads reasonably well.

I also have the El Capitan tent and think it's awesome. Got it at LeBaron for pretty cheap. Sets up quick, tears down quick. It was really good in 35 degree heat and retained the heat during a colder night of camping when it was around 4 degrees. It has also kept me completely dry during some very heavy rains. Lot's of room inside the tent and the 2 vestibules are great for storing my cases and boots and stuff. Considering it's a '3' person tent it seems pretty light and doesn't take up too much space. I also like the colour.
