I'll see if my bail conditions allow it. It sounds like it may be a good time.

I have set things up to go to the Ironhorse in May again this year. That probably means I won't be able to get away for this one but I sure would like to get there sometime.

It's very, very tempting.

I have been thinking about this meeting ever since I heard about it.

South Dakota, also known as "The Sunshine State" (take THAT, Florida!), is lovely, but it is not a place I would consider visiting if I needed an abortion.

Pardon the digression, please.

In 2006, I rode all around South Dakota, not intentionally, but en route from Toronto via Denver to Vancouver, and from Vancouver via Edmonton to Toronto. When I realized my circumnavigation, I resolved to visit South Dakota one of these days, and now it appears that visit may a mere seven months off.

What remains a mystery is my starting point. I might start from Florida, and I might start from Ontario. I am hoping by early summer 2009 to have a small home in Ontario, and be a snowbird (or maybe a slushbird, one who crowds the chilly seasons a tad) as the whim strikes me.

I haven't seen Mount Rushmore since 1979, and I suppose there are a few more presidents carved into the rock by now. I forget the scale of those carvings. Do you suppose I could hit the likeness of GWB with a rock from the visitor's center?

A rock?

Silly man! You're gonna be in 'merika, remember? You could probably get a rocket launcher at the local 7-11. You -know- how they are...

Squint

Hey Keith,
If you scrunch up your eyes and look real close at my crappy avatar picture you'll see it was taken in Stromness. I'll bet you know where that is. I'll have to get a better one next time I'm up that way.

Defeated!

Jstrom, your perspicacity amazes me. I thought I knew the province of my birth very well, but I had no idea that Stromness Ontario existed until you showed me!

Thank you very much. I will hasten to ride there ... but next year, not 2008. I am trying to avoid snow and freezing weather, and so far I am managing well.

I asked Google to find Stromness USA, and it apologetically sent me back to Stromness Ontario (NEAR United States, it said). I guess there is no Stromness in this country. I have read much about Stromness on the island of South Georgia, near Antarctica. I would not want to ride anywhere near that Stromness.

Thanks for the pointer!
Keith

PS ... I ought to mention, in connection with South Dakota, that I know perfectly well which presidents can be found on Mount Rushmore, so I will not go there looking for an image of the fella moving out of the White House soon. Here's a Rushmore riddle for you: which president was carved onto the mountain TWICE?
