Hey All,

Sorry for the short notice but V-Tom and I are planning on getting together for a ride this Sunday. Scheme was just hatched last night so no details yet. I'll take a look at my magic route book and see what I can come up with. Meeting place will depend on the direction we head. Colours are getting pretty good up North though.

I'm working again, bahhh damn railroad !

If I win the 6/49 on Saturday I'll be out on the ride.

Have fun out there and watch out for busloads of tourists from Toronto gawking at the leaves.

Ya crazy bastard....look outside...its beautiful....why'd you cancel...I was all ready....I got my allowance so I could buy lunch and my amish woman's cap was packed to ward off any ice cream headaches.

Oh well, maybe next Thursday!

Some of us work Saturdays... :(

All of the roads north of Lake Simcoe are nice roads.

I'm planning on heading that way for a ride on Saturday, heading to see the cranberry farm near Bala (http://www.cranberry.ca).

was thinking something like this

If I don't feel dead after that, then I may be on for Sunday...unless I see you guys out there on Saturday that is !!

Definitely won't be able to make the ride due to later in day commitments but going to watch the thread to see where you start from in the a.m. and maybe I can finally put faces to names if you're starting around Barrie area.

Heavy Mentioned 9 o'clock start time.. he said something about cold mornings (but I think it's related to him not getting up in the morning on a regular basis) so we should start at 9. (Mind you, last time I suggested 9 o'clock start time he changed it to 8.)

Heavy is checking out some roads today so we'll finalize the route later today or tonight. Since odds are we are heading north into the Muskoka's area (how can you not love the roads up there?) I imagine we'll start at the Esso in Barrie. More details will follow later.

..Tom

I think Deb and I are good to go. Just say where and when.

Okay guys (and Deb). I rode up to the Bracebridge - Huntsville area to scope out some new roads. I found some that are really going to be worth exploring, but we should save them until next season. I rode in about 10 kilometres on one road and was less than 1/2 way along. The road varies from good, hard packed dirt to sand or clay and is pretty slippery in spots. It looks like parts of it are snowmobile trails, but very doable snowmobile trails. I figure we can put it into a ride next year when we have warmer temperatures and the sun is up later so we're not rushing home.

I figured out route possibilities for Sunday. I'll post them here in about 1/2 an hour.

The plans for Sunday's route:

Since we're getting a later start than usual, I figured we could include a little bit of highway travel to get us through the awkward parts and to the good roads quicker.

The start point is the usual ESSO station, in Barrie, at 9:00, like V-Tom suggested. We will blast up the 400 to clear Barrie and then head North on Old Barrie Road. Once we get to Orillia, we hit hwy #11 to get us up to Washago. I've included Southwood Road. Sections of it have been under construction all summer and I figure it can't be any worse than its been. Beside, its likely to be the last Southwood ride for this season. From there we get to have some fun in the Muskoka area.

Lunch is planned for the 141 cafe, which I've never been to but heard good things about.

The afternoon route winds back through Muskoka and then crosses over to the other side of hwy #11 and ends in Washago. That gives people the option of either side of Lake Simcoe for the run home and should get us finished before too late.

Let me know if anyone has any suggestions for route modifications.

The colours are pretty good in areas and we all need to watch out for leaves and such on the roads, making it pretty slippery in spots. I had a couple of pucker moments this afternoon.

Looks good, Heavy!

If we got ahead of things in the afternoon we could add a little section out to Dorset or Carnarvon

See you before 9 am at the Esso.

Sunday ride

Enjoy the ride and the fall colours.
Riding from Kingston to Barrie just to start a ride is just toooooo farrrrrrr and I expect you will find your way without me.
I'm riding with a local group to Wheelers Pancake House, for lunch. I'm the oddball but they are a friendly bunch of experienced rides who tolerate me and the Vstrom.

Safe ride to all of you.

Thanks Tom. Its always a pleasure to ride with such a fine group of guys.

I hope everyone made it home okay.

Deb, you were conspicuous by your absence. We enjoyed Jim's company but really missed your smile. Hope you had fun with your alternate plans.

Diesel, I hope you're feeling better. Too bad you had to head home early. You weathered the worst of the weather and the ride got better as the day went on. We even saw some sunshine in the afternoon.

Thanks for the pics yruiy. I like that fast looking grey V in the second last pic. I bet he gets crappy mileage with those vortex generators though.

As usual, I brought my camera, but never took it out of my top case.

Thanks for setting up another great ride
Deb says thanks for the kind words and thoughts, she is very disapointed she couldnt go but she didnt miss the cool temperatures and morning rain, even though it would have been a good test for her new suit.

Whew...made it home!

Thankfully the descent to civilization back down the 400 to the big city is considerably straighter than the roads you guys found for us. Also considerably less enjoyable.
Thanks for the tutoring on my painfully inadequate skills in the twisties, which needless to say, came close to being rather more painful at a couple of points! Don't get many roads like that just puttering back and forth to work around T.O.
Never thought about it before, but it left me wondering if after the surveyors laid out the rest of southern Ontario with all these straight roads back in the 1700's, they were all laid off. Must have followed squirrels to determine the rest of the routes!
Sorry you had to cut out early Steve. You'd have had a blast. Be better for the next one.

Great meeting everyone and look forward to another run, maybe when things warm up a tad.
