Southern Ontario Ride Sunday, July 6th

Hi All,

Heavy and I are going to go for a bit of a ride Sunday. Essentially starting in Newmarket at 8 am, head out to Bancroft have lunch and then head back. This should take most of a day but plenty of opportunities to bail if you run into time constraints.

All are welcome, any type of bike is fine. The roads should be perfectly acceptable for almost any type of rider.

Please let me know if you feel like joining in.

..Tom

8:00 AM !?!?!?!?!

hmmmm...teach me to be absent during the most important phase of the planning!

Where do you think we should meet Tom? How about the Timmy's/Wendy's on the South side of Davis Drive, just West of the 404? There are gas stations nearby so people can fuel up before we roll off.

Looks like you're lead this time. I'll be tailgunner.

Good point about the time.. maybe 9am would be better?

Best place to meet would be at the Esso Station (which has a Tim Hortons) on Greenlane just west of the end of 404.

There is a Shell across the road for Shell users, and if coming from Barrie there is a Petro Can and Shell at Yonge and Greenlane.

I was kidding about 8:00. An earlier start means we either finish earlier or have more time to stop and smell the roses along the way. Either is fine with me. I say we stay with the 8:00 start.

Garage
Bancroft lunch

Planning to ride solo, ( Kingston - Bancroft - Westport ) North up hwy #62 and join you for lunch. I will need to head back by 2:00pm; might take hwy # 28 East towards Denbigh.
Time to meet and eat with you but likely not much riding together. What's your route and ETA in Bancroft ?

Anyone coming from the East ?

Come on Shepherd. There's a nasty flu going around. I bet you could get it just in time.

I got held up late at work and family stuff meant no computer until now.

Here is a preliminary route:

http://tinyurl.com/6duldf

Notes:

-We can have a quick break in Bobcaygeon. There is gas and Tim Horton's there.

-It's been a while since I've been there, but I recall the falls/rapids in Burleigh Falls were quite nice

-I've never been on 504.. it looks like it might be interesting

-I included a piece of "Old Hastings Road" This is an old settler road and should be passable. if not or we are short of time we can skip it. (If anyone knows that it is not a good road please let me know.)

-After Bancroft we'll head north to Maynouth and then west on Peterson Rd. Later garmin GPS mapping programs do not have it connecting with Elephant Lak road so the GPS might get confused if you try and make a route through there.

-Thee is a Lift Lock in Kirkfield that makes an interesting side trip if there is time

As we approach Norland we can head several different ways depending on time left. Monk road towards Orillia is a nice run

The Old Hastings Road sounds interesting...if we can get down it.

The MTO calls it a "Minor Road - Two lane, loose surface".

"The road is begins about 12 km south of Bancroft on the west of highway 62. The historic road runs parallel to highway 62, crossing over RR 620 and continuing south to meet up with the highway just past the ghost town of Millbridge. The road becomes impassible at several points but is definitely worth the effort. There are several pioneer cemetaries along the way and old buildings which have been preserved."

http://www.ontarioabandonedplaces.co...s/hastings.asp

The map shows it is continuous from 620 up to where it joins 62.
