Toronto area shop for valve check?

Looking for suggestions I need to get my valve clearances check and was looking for a good shop to do it.I have used 109 Cycle in the east end but I talked to them and they said it would take 4-5 hrs $85/
Newmarket said about 325 plus shims. Any suggestions out there:?:

Belleville Sport and Lawn are an honest bunch of folks. They charged me less that $60 for my 1k check. Call them and ask how much to do the valve check. Whatever they tell you will probably be pretty accurate. This way you'll know what to really pay in Toronto. The number is 613-968-4559. It can't hurt to get an honest estimate.

Rosie Toes, or something like that, sounds very reasonable for a lot of service work. I've never used them but they are someplace near 400 and 401. I'm sure someone here will know it.

Found it...

Another site might have more info on this topic.

www.gtamotorcycle.com will provide you with lots of rumours about Rosey Toes. Some are complimentary, and some are not.

I like Cyclewerx on Bloor Street West (north side) near Keele. They work on vintage machines too, so you will learn a lot when you go there. Cheerful fellows, and I believe the owner works in the trenches, not in an office.

Good luck, and tell us how you were served; I will be there soon.

Interesting Keith. I haven't heard anything but positive about Rosie's. I'll have to do some research.

Tom at Cyclewerx has been great to deal with for me. Although I've not needed any work from him on the Wee yet, that's probably where I will head when the time comes, if only because they are just up the street.
Have also dealt with Ted at Rosey Toes, before Cyclewerx existed. An unrefined kind of experience. Ted puts on no "airs " for anyone. Renowned for his belching, but always a great help and a seemingly bottomless pit of bike knowledge. Will even do service calls in the area if he can.
Both of the above have done good work for me in the past at what at least seemed to be reasonable prices. Both seem to specialize in older bikes, but I think that is just representative of the older bikes that are around. I've seen everything under the sun in both of those shops.
Another one that is worth checking into is Riders Choice at N/W corner of Dixe Rd. and The Queensway. Owned by John McBride, formerly of McBride's Cycle. They have a great reputation and in fact, it was John who turned me on to the Strom one day when I just popped in to ask for some opinions. At the time I was considering a used Connie and John spent a good 3/4 hour with me going over some options. Nice clean shop and looks well organized, but I've never had work done there myself. See: www.riderschoice.ca
Also; have a look at Kahuna Cycle. Steeles west off hwy 400. Read great reports about them on gtamotorcycle.com but haven't used them either.
Seeing as you are in Scarborough have you been into GP Bikes in Ajax? Don't know much about their service, but at least they are closer than these west-end shops.

Cheers

Comprehensive report!

Thanks, WeeRob, for all that news.

The only adverse rumour I have heard about Rosie Toes is a suspected casual attitude toward Ontario's required Safety inspection. Understand, I mean I have read only rumours, and know nothing of the circumstances and even less about those casting aspersions.

I like my dealer here in the south, and will try to get important servicing done here, so I will be ready to enjoy balmy days and long sunny evenings when I get to Ontario in May. Please wring out all the clouds during April, so that May will be bright and dry!

I have never used Roseytoes but had heard good things about them in the past, much of it on the GTA morotcycle forum. I read the same recent thread that had more to do with safety check and even after reading that thread I can't say that anyhting bad happened. I think that someone's interpretation of what should happen may have been different than reality.

I do know that when I called them last year once (intending to get a tire doen there) they seemed very pleasant and helpful on the phone.
Sometime in the next few weeks I'll be using Roseytoes to put on a new front tire.. I'll let you know how that works out for me.

Paul at Pro 6 is very good. (Kipling and Dundas) He's a real honest guy and I've been very happy with the service there. They do a lot of race bike work there, os they're pretty switched on to Suzuki Products.
