Stuck in Haileybury with a bad tire!

I was heading back from James Bay, winding my way back to Michigan and I just discovered a seriously bad situation with my tire. I have two bald spots on my rear tire and of course it is Sunday.

My thoughts are to patch it and then get down to Sudbury where I can replace the tire.

The big question is are there any stromtroopers in the area able to dismount and remount my tire with a shade tree setup at home?

Workn' Play is just up the road and I have been in contact with the owner but they aren't open til Monday

Any suggestions?

Mike

Sorry I hit the button before typing and then took a phone call and forgot to get back right away. Thanks for thinking about me!

No suggestions but how do you patch a bald tire?

And the bald spots didn't suddenly happen (unless you were locking up the brakes) so if they got you this far perhaps they will get you to Sudbury? I've seen cords at least once on a rear tire and nothing bad happened.

Thanks for the comments. I think I will hang out where I am until the local shop opens tomorrow and see if they can put an internal patch and / or add a tube(???) and then head south and then west slowly and try and find a tire in North Bay, Sudbury, or the Soo. I was able to get a hold of someone at Royal Distributing in Sudbury but they don't have a tire to fit in any form. Everyone else is closed on Sunday.

If nothing else works, I'll just head home slowly and keep checking it. The wear is really weird and is only in 2 spots. I am a big guy (6'4" and 270) with a heavily loaded bike and the James Bay Road was very bumpy! It really beat me up. The tire is a Shinko 712 and I have gotten 5000 plus miles on one before when similarly loaded. This one has about 3500 miles. I'll be switching back to something else with the next tire!

Mike
