Motorcycle Rental in Toronto

I have a client in the Toronto area (not Delta Physics Research, as their checks have bounced) who is willing to fly me up, put me up and entertain me for a long weekend.

I'd like to rent a motorcycle during this time, preferably someplace near the airport.

I'd like to rent something besides a V-Strom 650 or Cruiser of any ilk, perhaps a Sport Touring bike of some kind. Preferably from a location near the airport or in the Concord area.

Any recommendations, helpful hints, warnings, etc.?

Thanks

Norm

Here is the only place I know of other than Harley dealers that will rent bikes in Toronto.

http://gtaexotics.ca/portal/

I have no experience with them and don't know anyone who has. No sport touring bikes it appears. :-(

Here are a few threads off of a popular Toronto motorcycle board about the company listed above,

seems like you would be taking your chances.

Here is another thread that mentions another place to rent from.

From the Concord area it'll take you about 100km's just to find the start of any decent riding roads if you are worried about mileage fees.

If you do manage to find a bike, keep in mind the new laws in Ontario. Going 50km over the limit, doing a wheelie, and a whole sort of other things can get you a 7 day license suspension, confiscation of your wheels, and a fine of up to $10,000.

When is this long weekend?

I might be able to help, depending on a lot of things. I will be in Toronto from before Victoria Day to after Civic Holiday (let the Yanks guess when those are).

One of those things is the timing of your visit. Do you know when you will be visiting Toronto?

You Candians know how to live, celebrating Upscale Womens Lingerie (May 24) and sporty Honda Compacts (August 24) is pretty cool. This period of the Canadian Calendar encompass the 90 worst days for outdoor ice hockey. This is how water polo was created.

(I know a guy who claims to have been a bass player with Chilliwack - he helped me with this. Although, being from the Vancouver, he may be a little fuzzy on Ontario-specific holidays like the Honda thing.)

From previous posts, Non-Harley rental looks expensive and iffy. From online research Harley rental just looks expensive and boring.

My schedule is still up in the air, right now I'm in the preliminary planning stages. I didn't find much in the way of bike rental online previous to this thread and y'all just confirmed what I already suspected.

I'll be able to go a few days without a bike - I think.

I will post more as my plans firm up, it would be nice to meet some Strommers abroad. Hope to see some of you at the Eastern Gathering in May

Thanks,

Norm

Victoria Day is celebrated on or before the last Monday before the 24th, so this year it's the 19th. The Civic holiday is the first Monday in August.

I commend your creativity.

Don't know if this is duplicated information, but it can't hurt to have more info.

I rented a Night Rod last year just for grins, and was anything but bored.

I've gotten to ride bikes from the Sportster, Dyna, Softail and Touring lines. In many cases for hundreds of miles and two up. I've really tried to love the Harley Davidson, I feel it's my patriotic duty. While they all had that certain unrefined elegance, I found them to be generally boring. Whenever I've had the chance to rent or test ride a Harley, the V-Rod and/or Buell were not offered.
