Ontario 2014 Spring Ride

This ride has been on my mind and the date is closing fast.
Guess I will hold my hand up and offer to start planning a route before my wife starts making other plans for my day.
The consensus seems to be to make it the first Sunday in May.That being the 4th. -Especially since if we are lucky, we will get to see Keith make the trip to join us once again.
Last year's ride went pretty well, although this time it would be nice to have better luck with lunch so that we can all converge/collapse on the same establishment. Already sent a note off to the restaurant right at Windermere, but they declined to open for our cultured bunch so early in the season. Not sure of the restaurant situation in Port Carling these days and it is the best location relative to the Windermere stop. The last time we were able to lunch together was when we ate at Sunset Grill in Gravenhurst. We could sort a route out that gets us there for lunch, but it is a longer haul to head up to the traditional stop at Windermere after. Maybe I’m overthinking this...Something will work out. Any suggestions are always welcome.

If people can speak up so we know how many might be coming, it may help with the coordination.

For anyone new to this gathering...Its just a chance to put faces to a few people on the forum and ride some fun roads without getting too crazy. Roads are too sloppy now anyway. Some twisty bits. Some unpaved, gravel bits, and given the time of year, probably some muddy bits.

Cheers

Suppose this should have been clearer.

We'll meet in the morning at the Esso station at the Essa Rd exit from the 400 at Barrie.
Departure is no later than 9:00 am, or the day just gets too long.
Route isn't completely defined yet but we will head generally north and a bit east. Usually will ride some, or all of Southwood Rd., always a stop at the dock at Windermere and will blow by such highlights as Bala and Port Carling, (miss-typed as Port Perry in first post). Last year we had a nice little photo stop at the falls in Bracebridge when the water was so high. Might be able to do that again this year too.
We will try to stay on secondary roads of various types and states of repair and to avoid highways. Avoiding highways is not always possible for timing, but we'll give it a shot.
The day unofficially ends at Washago where people will split off for the easiest routes homeward. Hopefully that doesn't end up being much after 4 or 4:30.

I think everyone is welcome these days. We used to try to keep it a "Strom-only" event, but there is always someone with a buddy who wants to come on his BMW or something. That's okay as long as they don't mind the chance of getting a bit wet or dirty. So far, no one on a Harley has come along for some reason.

Hope that gives enough of an overview for now.
Will see what we can do for a route over the next couple of weeks.

That's a shame...Sorry about the confusion with Port Perry. That will no doubt have thrown a few people off!

As an option for food if your other suggestions don't work out, the Crossroads restaurant in Rosseau is pretty decent with a nice view of the lake depending on where you are sitting.

Lunch at Crossroads Restaurant

I have no idea of what my schedule is like for that weekend, but it would be nice to come for the ride.

Sorry for braking the V Strom only rule 2 years ego, but it was "that BMW buddy" that wanted to come. This way at list some outsiders can see that there is a strong V Strom group in Ontario. Also, I think, that switching from the last week of April to first week of May worked pretty well for last couple of years. The weather was much better. I would like to enjoi, but this time I already sined up for Romney, WV. Have a great time guys.

I'd like to come. I can't completely promise at this point but shoud be able to come. Most likely my wife would come on her Gladius if I went but I would have ot check with her.

Rob thanks for taking over running this.. I have too much on my plate these days. Do you want me to dig up some of the old GPS routes and send them to you?
