What's also concerning is the fact that Provincial police Commissioner Julian Fantino wanted the new law to be 30 instead of 50. What the hell is this clown smoking. Apparently he's never driven on the 401. I went to Pearson airport last week and the minute I passed Morningside Avenue the pace picked up to 130kph. You had to do 130 in the centre lane just to keep up. Maybe they should have just raised the limit to 120 or so and come down harder on anybody going over 140. It would have made more sense.

I have a lawyer friend who says it's only a matter of time before the law is challenged. If you're caught going 50 over and you're the only thing moving on the road, how the hell is that racing? Anyone here race aginst themselves lately? This is a silly law brought on by silly people. I can't wait until some politician is busted on the 401 doing 151kph. That should be interesting.

It all about saftey you know. Not the minimum $2,120,000 in fines collected so far.

FYI there has been a little set up on Trafalger Rd a few times in the last week in the gas station/lights where the speed limit drops to 50kph from 80kph. Last time I went through it was 1 OPP cruiser and 3 towturcks lined up in a row.

I wonder if all 1060 charges were for speeding 50 over. They didn't mention if any were for stunting which falls under the same charge.
If they changed it to 30 over traffic would be lighter since half the vehicles in the province would be impounded.
I really believe this has more to do with 2+ million collected than safety. With all that extra money I'm sure he can justify getting some new officers, patrol cars and maybe a nice new black & white helicopter.

As an expat Canuck living down here in the land of the free and the home of the handgun all I have to say is, "I'm never going back!" I'll visit less frequently also. Ontario traffic Nazis are assholes. Get some bike riding lawyer to get a ticket, challenge the law, and put pay to the jerkoffs. I used to enjoy going up to Ontario where people actually have half a clue about driving and move along quite smartly not like the brain-dead mouth breathers down here. It is most likely all about the almighty dollar as some posts have stated. I say hang every polititian above the rank of dog-catcher.

Maybe they should focus some attention on the blue haired old ladies talking on cellphones and drinking coffee while driving their caddies instead of parking on the side of the highway waiting for the "Big Bust". As always, there is never a cop around when you need one, but go over the limit by 2 kph and you're screwed. About the $$$$$$, you bet it is. Just my redneck opinion.

one poor sod on gtamotorcycle.com got nail with "stunting" while he was lane splitting in stopped traffic on the DVP. one less fzr400 menace on the road. couple guys in Waterloo got nailed with "stunting" but it sounded really really questionable since they were reported by drivers and then the cops stopped the whole group and charged them all.

four out of five days last week there was a speed trapped set up some where on Trafalger Rd between the 401 and oakville. Same set up one OPP and 3~4 tow trucks right where the speeds change.
