Sunday, Sept.9 - Cottage Country Romp

My only free weekend day for the next month is Sunday, Septmeber 9th and I'd like to go for a ride. I have a good looking route planned out that incorparates the Southwood road...twice....you can never have too much of a good thing. :-D

I'm thinking of an 8:00 start in Barrie. I suggest we use the Esso station, right at HWY 400 and Essa Road, as our meeting point again. Its a good spot with fuel and Tim Horton's right there. Its a shorter route than last weekend and should cover just over 400 kms. I've planned the end point in Orillia so people can split off and ride whichever side of Lake Simcoe works best for them. We should be in the Gravenhurst/Bracebridge area at lunch time so there will be choices of where we stop for food. I have the route in .gpx .mps format for those that are interested in a copy. Just emaill me through my profile and I'll send it off to you. I'll try and lay it out in Google maps too so anyone can see it.

Could you hand write it on a piece of paper, then mail it to me so I can trace it on my paper map with a highlighter ? I'm kind of old school. JUST KIDDING!

Only 400 km ? What am I going to do with the other half of the day ? :-)

Okay. I've got the majority of the morning route laid out.

It incorporates Big Chute Road http://bikeroads.atspace.com/chute.htm,

Bala Road #38 http://bikeroads.atspace.com/bala.htm

and Southwood Road http://bikeroads.atspace.com/sothwood.htm.

The afternoon route to follow...

Well, the paper maps are a step up from what you were using before...

You still have the trip up to Barrie and back down from Orillia. I'm sure you could include a little side trip to Peterborough on your way home to make the ride worthy.

I like it. You get the Big Picture. All these squiggly lines on a postage stamp LCD display. Bah! You know, the next thing they'll do is put electric starters in motorcycles. Then we're toast!

They're big and ugly and powerful beasts and you guys don't get to see them much because you're too slow.

I don't know. I'll give it to the end of the week. Depending on responses, I may move it back to early October.

Maybe I should set up a poll for potential dates?
