I'm Back!!

Hey All.

I had my solo trip to Calgary and back and had a wonderful time. The bike was performed beautifully (as if anyone doubted it)!

I headed out on the #3 and stayed at motels in Midway and Cranbrook. In Alberta I took the #22 up to Black Diamond, zipped over to Bragg Creek and then into Calgary.

I stayed with my folks for 7 days and they were horrified that I would come such a long distance not only on a death machine but alone. I guess I should be extremely lucky that I'm not maimed or ravished. Hmm, let me rethink the ravished part......

The return trip was a lot of fun. The first day I headed over to Banff, dropped down to Radium Hot Springs and popped back up to Golden. The next day, I went to Revelstoke and again headed south to Nakusp and then over to Vernon. Wow - that #6 from Needles is FUN!

Then I took 97 to Kamloops, headed south to Merritt along the 5A. Popped over to the 97C and headed north again to Cache Creek. My last day, I took the Lillooet, Pemberton, Whistler route home (of course stopping in Squamish for a coffee).

The only mishap was dropping my baby beast in the parking lot in Golden. Yes, I broke the signal light housing but the light still functions. It is now beautifully decorating with duct tape.

I want to thank everyone for the advise. It was nice knowing that I had comprehensive tool kit and it all fit under the seat!

I definitely will do this again next year!!

Sharon

Congratulations on the trip. Pretty intoxicating to know you are going to ride every day and put in some good miles on good roads.

Good luck next year...maybe you'll even get ravished.

Sounds like you had a great trip Shannon, way to go! I was out to Cowtown 2 weeks ago and did that nice ride south of Calgary, including the Peter Lougheed hwy, Bragg Creek, Longview, etc. Its about a 380km run starting/ending in Calgary.

Cheers!

You're obviously traveling on the wrong roads.

Here is one of my favourite pictures. I'm not in any of the photos. Everywhere I stopped, no one was available to to snap a pic of me and my bike.

This is somewhere between Revelstoke to Nakusp. The day was beautiful and the scenery great.

Thanks for the post and the pix. I was overtaken by a wave of nostalgia having ridden many of the roads you traversed on your trip and Squamish is one of my favourite spots. Almost made it to BC last year but time wouldn't allow it. Mabey the year I ride the Continental Divide Trail I'll jog over to visit my buddy Don in Salmon Arm. I take pix of myself on my digital with the timer feature. You just have to get the framing right and find a good place to prop the camera. Give it a try, I've had great results. My buddy Don takes pix from the saddle of his R1100RT with his digital with excellent results. Of course he's a much better rider than me.

Ciao

Hi Strompette,

Do you have any pictures of the trip? I'd also like to see the route on the map.

I very much want to head out west in the future. I tought it would be this summer but it will likely have to be next year.

How long did the actual riding part of things take?
