" i do get much great enjoyment from fiddling with bikes "

I do to Dave that is why I own a Strom and not some exotic European thing.

I also think if you have a wish you should fulfil it so if you are liking the BMW give it a try.

Some of the 19 rides in my shed
2014 V2, Snoopy
2009 Wee, Pumbaa the pig
WR450F, The Blue Postie Bike
YZ250N smoker with rego, Stinky.
Yamaha MT09 (FZ09), The Scud missile.
Club Lead not Club Med.
He with the most toys wins.
Out of my depth in a puddle.
Live life on the edge you will see more that way.
Ridding a motorcycle keeps things in balance.
At the end of each trail and at the end of each day history is made.

At this stage i don''t know what the insurance company is going to do with the bike and frankly i am in a position to not really care too much either way. If they fix it great and if they write it off then Ill just have to get a newer bike (one with ABS) I sat on a BMW F800GS a few years ago ago and it felt ergonomically great for my artheritic neck, the 2015 and onwards models now have 23 litre tanks in them where the older ones could only hold 13, although i prefer Jap bikes as parts are cheaper and easier to get and i do get much great enjoyment from fiddling with bikes in bits especially as i seem to be prone to bingle them regularly. I've also been drooling over an ad for a red 2012 Strom that is currently located nearby.

Wobbly I was camping out in a gungy caravan park in Grafton South that appeared to be full of permanent residents. Interestingly the first 3 transactions on my credit card were to pay traffic fines in Victoria and a water bill in Frankston Vic. The bank was able to block the card after their algorithm detected small "test" transactions coming from Thailand. Telstra also blocked my email account after they detected someone trying to hack in.
There's 2 caravan parks in South Grafton Dave, the Sunset Caravan Park at the edge of the Gwyder Hwy on the left as you're coming from Glen Innes into Grafton and then you have the Glenwood Caravan Park just as you come in from Coffs Hbr and it's in Heber Street on the left....both have permanent residences, some of them down and outs, some of them ok.

Doesn't take much to be scammed these days, always keep your eye on your card, always try to insist that you do the transaction and not them, make sure they don't dip your card anywhere under their side of the counter. Cards have been skimmed in ATMs, always check the card socket before you put it in place. If your card's info has been used in a transaction, then it could also mean that you were skimmed maybe even Months ago.

Hope you get a new bike soon

I had to navigate around the fires and got to travel on some great roads that I had been wanting to explore for a long time. While i was staying overnight in Grafton my credit card and email got hacked and my phone was permanently "bricked" after foolishly accepting a "software update" that appeared after selecting a "free" wifi. Consequently I had to ride the rest of the way home with no phone or internet access and have lost all of my photos and contacts from the ride. I still have to somehow sort out how to pay a toll from Brisbane as well. Last Friday I took the bike out again for a run to see a friend in Trentham and hit a fallen tree at high speed in the forest on the way there. I am currently very sore and bruised and the bike is a lot worse than me with most of the front end plastic parts disintegrated, a nice big dent in the tank and the shit smashed out of the crash bars. I'm in a state of shock and grief and have just finished filling out the insurance forms. I am wondering whether I am going to ever experience the joy of riding V-Strom again.
Hey Dave,

I missed your post for a while.

I hope your injuries and head have healed, no spill is a good spill!

As far as thieves go, the bastards are everywhere! I'm near the fires and I've heard stories of people not only stealing fuel out of the fire trucks but the water as well!!!

The new 1050 strom sounds awesome, sounds like a good replacement!

Best wishes
