I live in San Francisco and have had my wee since last July. I took many fun day trips near the city, but tired of Skyline quickly... Any advice on some other places for good strommin'? Also, any other San Francisco strommers interested in group rides in the area...?

Mt. Tam

Try a trip to Mt. Tamalpias and over to stinson beach. Very scenic and nice. We will be going on a trip through the Sacramento delta soon, if you are interested. There is a social group for Norcal stroms, look at it and see if you want to join.

Off-bike in San Francisco

This may be a loaded question, but I'm going to be riding to San Francisco in June and will be off-bike in the city for a couple of days. What's there to do? Anything along the lines of "If you're in SF, you HAVE to do _____ or you MUST see _____."

Lots of Strom-friendly destinations around here. :)

Mines/Del Puerto/Mount Hamilton
Morgan Territory Road, also Marsh Creek/Vasco (connects to Mines Road in Livermore)
Stewarts Point - Skaggs Springs Road
The roads around Lake Berryessa (beware of squids)
29 & 155 up in the Calistoga/Middletown area

Some shorter rides in the East Bay include Palomares/Calaveras roads, Redwood/Skyline/Grizzly Peak, Bear Creek/Alhambra Valley.

Peninsula-wise, check out Pescadero (connects to 84), Stage Rd., Tunitas Creek, etc.

Farther afield, if you're heading south, take 101 to Hollister, then 25 to 198 for a nice alternative to 101 or I-5.

And of course there is tons of great riding in the mountains. Highway 36 is the ultimate thrill :) but all the Sierra passes (highways 4, 108, 89) are awesome too, when they're open.

I will be coming to San Francisco, friday 17th April for a conference. Figure I will rent a bike on Sat/Sun and check out some of SF, perhaps Lake Tahoe.

1. Anyone know where I can perhaps rent a vee/wee, as that's what I have at home? Failing this, I'll probably rent a BMW

2. Anyone interested in getting together for a ride?

You can rent a Wee from these folks:

http://www.wildwestcyclerent.com

I'm riding up to Ferndale with some friends on Saturday, then on Sunday we're riding legendary Highway 36 back to I-5 and home. :) But maybe you'd rather stay closer to The City. This would be about a 600-mile (1000km) trip.

Should be nice enough weather for a trip to Tahoe, but some of the more fun passes (Sonora, Ebbetts, Monitor) are still closed. That means you'll either have to take I-80 or Highway 50, neither of which is especially fun.

Just my luck. They didn't respond to email yeaterday, so I called them today and they have rented it for Sunday.... any other Stommer rentals ?
Yeah, like most motorcycle dealers they're closed on Mondays...

I don't think there are any other places that rent V-Stroms. Your best best is probably http://www.sportbikerental.com , which has (among other things) VFRs and FZ6s.

Ah, you rode Stewarts Point - Skaggs Springs Road. One of my favorites. :) I was briefly at the Dry Creek exit in Healdsburg on Saturday afternoon too, heading up to Cloverdale and Highway 128... we must have just missed each other. And lucky you, you hit SF during our worst heat wave of the year. Pity about the broken wine bottle though.

Thanks for checking the blog out - as I said, this is now my new favorite road too, lol....just need to find something like it closer to home !!!

How did you like the video (I hope it worked), felt my foot scraping the ashphalt at one point, lol. The wine really was a shame, but 3 of 4 were still good and the broken bottle belonged to the non-v-strom rider with me (BMW) :) .

Well, Stewarts Point - Skaggs Springs road isn't even the best motorcycle road in Northern California. That would be Highway 36. You'll have to come back out here and ride that one. :)

The video worked fine. Very nice! Though I can't help wondering whether you were going a tiny bit faster than the 35mph limit. ;)
