Exclamation Ignition switch problem?

I have this issue, see the other night i was coming home and had to stop at the store for something. I get what i need and got to leave on my inherited '04 "wee" strom. I turn the key to the "on" position and i push the start switch. I get 1 turn of the starter and the bike dies. No power to the cluster or anything. In about 5 seconds the gauges recalibrate and clock comes back on at the 1am reset time. the issue is that i turned the key off then back on and i still have no "power" to the cluster, thus the bike wont start.

this bike is awesome and its had its share of bad luck (complete front wiring harness replacement). It has ~33k miles and the latest issue has been the ignition switch. its been really difficult to get it into the "on" position. now that you know the story, is the switch shorting out a reason that the bike wont turn on? or could it be a bigger issue? any help or troubleshooting would be really helpful. as well as a good retailer for replacement parts.

It's usually the battery or the connections to the battery in a situation like that. It can be the ignition switch though. Try tightening the battery cables at both ends of the cable first. If that doesn't help use jumper cables from a car battery without the car engine running to jump start the bike. If that doesn't work, the ignition switch is a likely culprit.

I have an 04 and I usually give the key a push down before turning it. It seems to be spring loaded and turns easily after pushing it. Otherwise it seems stiff. Maybe some dry lube?

The battery is fine. I keep it on a battery tender and it's less than a year old. I checked the cables, fuses and the relay and they seem fine.

Lube is not the answer here. The tumblers inside the lock are worn out. It needs a new cylinder at least. But with it not getting and power I'm thinking that the switch shorted out as well

Try the jump. The battery is probably fine, but even new batteries can have a shorted cell. It's easy to try a jump and be sure the problem is not the battery.

It's a standard Suzuki part #37100-27G0. Any Suzuki dealer or online source for OEM parts source can get it. You might want to get a lock set to avoid carrying 2 keys. 37000-27860 and 37000-27870 are both listed but I don't know the difference between the two. You're looking at close to $150 for the ignition only and close to $300 for adding the gas cap and seat lock for a set of three pieces.

I don't mind having 2 keys, so thanks for the part numbers after I rule out the battery when I get home I'll start shopping. Would it be worth it to get a diagnostic done as well? Just in case.

What Site did you pull these numbers from cause I've searched and only found a couple sites ie vstroma.com and they don't have a parts catalog or not much of one anyways. I need a rockauto.com for motorcycles
