+1 For Jp57 for his patience, and the idea that the Bike is a great bike, with a technical problem
-1,678,321 for wiring harness inspector and Q.C.robot for missing a problem with the wrap of the harness that the Robot sub-contracted to the brother in law of the Robot Union Steward .
Who coincidently happens to have kept that job because he was grandfatherd by the "Humans Had the Job First law"

To make a long story short,

The bike was 2 weeks out of warranty when the problem began.

Since the rear injector wire had corroded completely through, I told Suzuki Customer Service that it must have had this "manufacturing defect" since it was new and been corroding during the warranty period. And, probably since the first washing at the dealership when I bought it.They said that I could not prove that. I told him that it probably didn't corrode in half in the two weeks after the warranty ran out. He said I couldn't prove that.

I found it interesting that Suzuki knew exactly where to tell the dealer tech to look for the problem. I think they knew that there were some defective harnesses.

I think that Suzuki should have covered the repair and I told the Suzuki customer service guy that.

It was a manufacturing defect. The defective condition existed during the warranty period. Ultimate failure occurred two weeks after the warranty ran out.

I also told them that I would be posting how this whole thing went on the internet forums. The Suzuki customer service guy then told me that they have my name connected to this bike and that it is on file for any future issues with Suzuki. A thinly veiled threat? What an a$$hole.

I give Suzuki the one finger salute for the way they handled this.

A few things JackPiner:

you state the problem started 2 weeks after warranty ran out, at 8500 miles, yet you first posted here on 8/16 with 10300 miles so I assume this was a month + after the problem started. Then it was 10/22 when you took her into the shop. Thats 2-3 months from the 1st sign of trouble. The better thing to do would have been to take it into a dealer immediatly, even if they do not find anything there is a record of the problem starting just 2 weeks after the warranty runs. Suzuki may have been more likely to go along then.

The other thing is the suzuki rep was telling you that they have a record of you, your bike, and the problem you experienced so if the bike has additional problems they it's not the 1st time. I'm sure that the tech did take your threat to post inflamitory comments online as you attempting to pressure him to do what you wanted and probably made him less likely to help.

BTW - did the new harness look any different than the old one?
If it was different you may have more ammo for your case that Suzuki knew there was a problem.

Mortaine, You say its a one sided story ? well only 1 half of the parties involved will comment on this (2 If you count yourself acting as Suzukis mouth piece) Suzuki is at fault for the wiring period . they have been building motorcycles for decades and ought to have the wiring harness assembly learning curve worked out THEY say its an Adventure
Touring bike. What the hell kind of adventure touring bike should not[size=3][size=2]
get wet? they are treating Kristin ( Chick on a Wee ) even worse.
do you assume jackpiner57 inflamed them to JERK Her around also????
And let's not forget this nugget of wisdom "washing the bike and failing to run it long enough to dry things out." how long would you have to run the bike to dry out the Encased wiring harness??? and should you use a fancy
SNAP-ON TOOLS, 399.00 Motorcycle wiring harness dryer ??

OK Tonto

Apparently you lack the ability to read, understand, and comprehend, read it again and quit trying to argue.

( those were NOT posed as Questions. these were your statments)

No Just reading what you said ..^^^. You did say that right ?
There are no variable to consider . The wiring harness was IMPROPERLY wraped . The connections were corroded to powder from 1 years use? What is up with that??
Maybe they could get someone at one of the other Adventure Touring Bike manufacturer's to instruct them how to correct this problem . NO ,wait maybe YOU could explain it to them. Sure, You could explain it to them...Yeah thats the ticket .That would solve that....

I stand bywhat I stated, Suzuki has been making motorcycles for decades. This was just sloppy workmanship. Not anything else ,well except for their failure to acknowledge the problem, and to contact ANYONE who purchased these bikes & invite them to bring them back to an AUTHORIZED Suzuki dealer to have the harness inspected ( Since they know where the problem lies) and make a good faith gesture to repair the bike's .With out the SMOKE & MIRRORS show .(you know the one "It's not our mistake.. It's you that got the bike wet"

By the way What Is your affilliation w/ Suzuki?
Are you their spokes-person on these forums ?
Oh and I'm not trying to argue with you. Just want you to know that we are all V-Strom owners and that the problem with the wiring harness is concern for all owners .Hopefully it wont happen to us but try to immagine it 's you who may break down because of it some lonely night on a trip to some Sparsley inhabited area of say the Youkon , or Baja, or where ever you might happen to be. just my thoughts ....

What kind of dealer would seriously charge 7.5 hours to diagnose a problem? I was always told that manufacturer's don't pay for a technician to learn how to fix something, they're supposed to KNOW how to fix it. And maybe I just don't have the heart to actually charge a customer that much for my inexperience, even if it is a complex problem.

nhtony, Where did I ever threaten that I was going to post anything negative? You assumed that. I told them that I was going to post however this all goes and how Suzuki handled it. Not a threat at all. Where did I say that the harness was replaced? You really need to read before you post. So what dealership are you from?

Tonto
I know this is going to be over your head but I will attempt to explain it to you

I did not say its a one sided story I said its one side OF the story
HOW did the water get there, that is the question, and one that Suzuki would ask, there (perhaps I should have used the word, THESE for you) are variables and THEY (meaning Suzuki) will use them ALL to avoid accepting responsibility. That was a question and things that THEY would consider. You say the harness was improperly wrapped and well it may have been but I have seen very good systems over powered and ruined by using HIGH pressure water. No matter how hard a manufacturer tries to user proof their product they sometimes miss one, but then I am a firm believer that there are people that can break an anvil in a sand pit using nothing but a rubber hammer. Like I said they sell us a very good product at a price that is acceptable to us and they DO take some short cuts, IF you are unhappy with these short cuts, Step up to the pump and buy a BMW they are almost but not quite idiot proof.
