Underseat USB Cable?

My 2014 Vstromm 1000 has a waterproofed USB cable under the seat. No searches on here or Google in general have produced any results on it. And the handbook doesn't mention it, either.

I'd like to know what it's for. It could either be an accessory for USB power or it's a cable for technicians to access the bike's computer system.

If it's for power for accessories then I can run a USB Lightning cable for my iPhone out from under the seat and have it in my seat bag. Otherwise, I'll leave it alone. I don't know what it'd do to the bike's electronics if I plugged a phone into it.

Unfortunately I'm at work so I can't take a photo (plus it's 1am). I'll do so tomorrow. But in the meantime, no it doesn't look like that. It's a USB socket (like what's on your PC) with a waterproof rubber cap over it and a lead that disappears into the bike's nether regions. I haven't really traced where it goes to.

I've only had the bike for 2 weeks and haven't had time to dissect it yet.

Riddle solved. I emailed the original owner who got back to me (at 2am in the morning during the middle of the night). He fitted it as a part of the power supply for the Garmin GPS. So it's good to use for my phone charging.

Yup, makes sense now. I also have the Zumo 590LM wired to my bike via Eastern Beaver PC8. I keep that integral Zumo USB charging cable routed up to my bars and just run it to inside my Givi tank bag - where I can charge cell phone, Inreach Explorer, etc. Routing to under the seat seems inconvenient to me, but whatever works! :smile2:

Just an update on this. The cable is somehow wired into the power supply for the Garmin Zumo 590 which came with the bike. There is no power to it until the Garmin is connected to the cradle and turned on. If it's turned off via pressing and holding its power button then power to the USB cable is lost.

I did my first 3 day ride this weekend just gone. I had a USB to Lightning cable running from it from under the seat into my Ventura seat bag. It kept my iphone fully charged whilst it was being used to stream audio (music and podcasts) to my SENA 10S headset.
