Thumbs up Fascinating Thread!

Hi All,

I have an ST1100 and I bought an 07 Wee yesterday I rode it 150 miles back home (smiles/mile was quite high)

I however noticed how much closer to the tank I was on the stock seat on the 650, and voila the forum has a million threads on it.

I'm 6'3" 200 lbs not skinny, and I am confused between trying a stock DL1000 seat and a Gel Seat - is the GEL the standout better seat for taller/heavier folks? I have the bead rider seat on my ST and perhaps I should transfer it to the Wee to test that out.

I also have the Lowering kit from Rick so I'm guessing that'll change some of these dynamics. I'll post updates on this. For short rides, the stock seat is more than ok. But more than 30 mins its painful On the ST1100 I've done 500+ mile days multiple times and I'd like to try get close to that mileage on the Wee too!

Love the forum. Looking forward to more inputs & reading other threads.

Regards,
Vish

You tall guys are pretty lucky. We've put lowering links on our '08 DL650, and I'm considering having the stock seat shaved. I had thought of trying a Sargent or gel, but from the measurements, that seems like a bad idea. I don't want to regain the 1" height that we removed with the links. Any suggestions of a lower seat, other than the Suzuki low seat? We'll do surgery if we have to, but if there's an alternative...

When I first got the Vee the seat was brutal, but I also found in time it became much better as I got used to the "different" feel.
190,000 km's later, I still ride the stock saddle, and I have done 12 to 14 hour days on it

Thanks! I've swapped stock for a tall Suzuki gel seat, and i use the Bead seats

2000+ miles using this combo. It's much better now!

New Seat $178 from Ebay - Genuine Suzuki Gel Seat V Strom 04 12 DL1000 04 11 DL650 DL 1000 650 | eBay

Cant find links for used ones right now but if you can find one, grab em! Also check out the Russel seats/any other aftermarket seat if it comes along on the marketplace. A good seat on your main riding bike is a good investment, up there with good suspension mods, if you are a tall rider. Best of luck!

I bought the Sargent "low" seat. The difference is night and day. I can ride up to two hours without feeling i need a break compared to the 45 minutes with the very uncomfortable stock seat. My only complaint about the Sargent seat are the bottom edges; they are susceptible to tearing. Mine has a small tear right on the edge.

however, upon contacting Sargent, they were quick to share with me how to address the issue. An upholster can remove the staples and pull the material back far enough so tear is on the inside of seat OR just have it repair. They also said they can re-upholster seats for $79.

In the end, even with the tiny tear, I'm extremely happy with this seat. I definitely recommend it.

Just my two cents.

Wee Stock vs Sargent

Bought RonnieTheBear 's Sargent Seat off him (he ended up going with a Corbin) and put in on my Wee today. I found the stock seat to be uncomfortable during extended rides and wanted something a bit taller/higher quality. For reference, I'm 6'/190/34" inseam.

The weather is MO is a little chilly for a ride so more to follow on a comfort comparison, but here are some photos that compare the two.

Sargent left, Stock right.

Stock front, Sargent back.

Russell Day Long = at 72yo, it was a 9 hour ride, 7 in pouring wind driven rain, sitting on my RDL. I got off, stood up straight, walked normal, no pain at all, wasn't whipped & my butt was smiling. They're well work the wait & $$
