I have a 26 liter Kappa Moto case That I recently installed and I do think it is a little close to the rear of the seat. My thought is If it crowds my wife too much, I will do a little modifying to the Topcase mounting plate so that I can shift it back a little bit.

Hi, Bob. The problem with all these seats is that no one seat works for everyone. What works for some doesn't work for others. We're all shaped differently. I definitely can't survive with the stock seat on my Wee. I had a Sargent on my '07 Wee, which was a big improvement over the OEM seat, however I wasn't totally comfortable on it for all day rides. Part of that is due to an old back injury, and my issue is butt burn on the left side only!! Must be a nerve thing. I had a Russell on my Gold Wing and loved it. They screwed up making it, but after I took it back and the redid it, it was great. Russells work for me because they are a true custom made seat. I am currently working on purchasing a Rick Mayer seat for my '09 Wee, from a guy in Washington.

Unfortunately, it often takes some experimenting around with different seats before finding the right combination of seat/seat pads/butt or gel pads/etc., and that can be expensive. It all becomes worth it, though when you get the right combination that works for you.

Default DIY seat mod

Hi gang, Did this seat mod last summer. Needed more height and comfort. I'm beyond pleased after @1500 miles on her. Used closed cell foam and beveled the edges to match contour. Can barely notice the seam if at all. Let me know if you want one, i'll try to think up a price. If you want advice on how to diy let me know. Jeff.

Default Newbie seat thoughts

Hi everyone just got a used wee and find myself sliding into the tank. I am 6'2 185 with 34 inseam. Sounds like maybe a gel seat would be better fit as i guess i am not the only one. Otherwise love the wee...

A couple of years ago I whittled away at the stock foam and got it to where I thought that it was OK - but either the seat is just too narrow or my butt is too wide. I threw up may hands, reached for the well-worn VISA card and ordered a Sargent. Here they are side-by-side.

The Sargent is wider, plus it has a proper butt pocket. My only mistake was in not doing the switch on the day that I bought the bike.

Edit: I'm 5'10", 185 lbs, and my suit trousers have a 30 1/2" inseam - a happy convergence of body type and seat shape / height.

All pictures that were originally posted in the first post of this thread are now available again on my blog: Suzuki V-Strom seat comparison - DL650 stock, Suzuki gel and Sargent | MotorLife

I hope it may help someone in choosing the right seat.

Just wanted to add that peg lowering brackets can make a nice difference in ride comfort letting your legs out a bit more.

Also, how is the AirHawk bladder pad considered in use with the gel seat? I have a gel and would like to make one final mod for the best comfort...

I so agree - it seems my most comfortable position is 'up front' on the seat cuz of having short arms - even with 2" barbacks. It gets narrow up there and sliding back just feels weird to get some relief. I want a butt pan but wonder if standard custom seats will work.

I think you need to go to the shop doing the mods and test before getting the cover installed...
