Simple helmet mod

I have a Shoei Neotec and love it.
Just two things bug me
- the only detent opens the shield about 1"
- the Pinlock still fogs in heavy rain when stopped

The two issues are tied together when you crack the shield to let some air in.
The bottom being too wide lets in rain and the top seal is no longer made so rain also dribbles in from the top.
Really Shoei?

So I came up with this simple little mod to keep the shield cracked just enough to let air in and also keep the top seal engaged. It occurred to me that others might benefit since other helmets have the same issue.
Essentially it's a length of solid copper wire - I think 10 gauge - inside a piece of aquarium tubing with the ends heated then pinch sealed. Actually I heated a needlenose and squeezed then shut. I then bent them to snugly fit on the helmet lip. The tubing keeps it from marring the helmets and cushions the edge. Placement determines how wide the gap - a single unit in the center is the smallest gap, one at each side is the widest. They stay put especially if you squeeze them a tad to conform best to helmet.

It'd be nice if that would work on the Shoei but the ratchet and pawl literally end at the point of the lowest opening.
Nothing to drill a detent into.

Nice tip. And keep the Neotec. I sprung for a Schuberth C3 Pro and wish I'd bought another Neotec Best helmet I've ever owned. C3 might be a little more quiet, but doesn't flow air nearly as well as the Shoei, nor is it quite as comfy.

Thanks -- great tip! I'll be giving it a try.

I moved to a Neotec from a Scorpion and I love it. My only issue with it was that it would mash my hair down in a weird pattern, which wasn't great when I wore it on my morning commute. My solution was to get a Heat Out skull cap that I wear under the helmet, which greatly improves things.

My OLD (20+ years ago) Shoei helmets had a cam lever (best way I know to describe it) that you could turn and it would keep the visor barely cracked open. Worked perfect! My HJC CL-14 doesn't have anything like that and the detents in the visor wears pretty quickly and closes all the way. I love to have a little air moving around in my helmet here in humidity of NC summers. I tried your wire trick but it won't work on my helmet. I've been using a small length of fuel hose with a slit cut longways to allow it to slip on the visor. Problem is after a while it doesn't grip as well and I end up loosing them. Anyone else have any ideas?
