I have been researching to buy a bike for a month and plan to purchase one in February. I am having trouble deciding on a bike. I keep leaning toward a wee, but I am concerned about whether it is enough bike for me. I am 6'3 and 270 lbs.
I live in central NC and intend to commute and do 4-6 hour rides for fun to the mountains with the occasional passenger. I also intend to ride to Canada once a year to visit in-laws and do some touring. So far I am considering the wee, Super Tenere, BMW GS and the Concours 14. I know the Concours is not an adventure bike. I am not sure how often I would hit a dirt road, but would like the option. I appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks |

Also, I have had street bikes before. My last was a Honda Shadow.

If I was 270# and was going to ride some two up, I would want more HP than the wee. I think the Vee would be a better choice.

If you and your passenger want a spirited ride, then 650 cc may be too little. Not every dealer offers a test ride, but if you can test a 650 with your passenger, you will learn. I ride through NC on my way to and from Canada, and the whole ride is a delight. I bought my DL-650 to ride long distances, and it does the job well. I have been to 38 states and 10 provinces, and I hope to go to more places by and by. As I do not have a lot of cushion built in, I put a $1 cushion on the seat, and it makes a big difference to me. Maybe a $500 seat would be better, but I am willing to take a break when I get tired or sore. Good luck on your choice. If it's the DL-650, I reckon you will like it a lot. Keith

For what its worth I am 250 lbs and 6 foot tall, my wife is also 6 foot and about 160 lbs. We ride two up quite a bit with no issues, I would agree a 1000 would be more umf but I still have a good time with my 650. I have only been riding for two months but I don't regret getting my 650 or my wife's adventure model. The 55 MPG I get rocks too!

Super Tenere.........no question especially where you live, those roads deserve the best. The C14 is a good 2 up bike, but still think it excels 1 up....and it is a wicked beast.

That's at least the second time you posted that and it still is not true. One 650 can have over twice the horsepower of another 650. Which 650cc motorcycle has the most horsepower?

I think I have eliminated the concours. I feel it's a toss up between the Vee and the BMW GS800.
I like the looks of both but I am drawn to the abs and heated grips. How comfortable is a gs on a long road ride? |

Agree, I think you'd be happier on a Vee
