I'm really interested in picking up a leftover '14 DL1000 ABS. But, I'd like to compare it to the 650 and to the Versys 1000. My local dealers here near Baltimore will not let you test ride. I'm kind of set on the DL 1000, but I won't know for sure til I try them.
Any dealers you all know of that will allow test rides in/around the Lancaster area?
Your best bet would be to find someone local that will let you ride their V2. I live in central NJ if you want to take a ride. I also have a 650 so we can take a ride together if you want. Or you can start calling the local dealers and seeing what they say.

That's really generous! If I don't find a dealer I might take you up on that.. I'll try some calls today to 4-6 dealers within an hours drive.
Hopefully someone does.
Check the website for B&B Sales. They have (2) used Gen2 650's on the floor now. They handle KTM also. They will allow test drives with MC Lisc & Credit Card to cover damage
Keller Motorsports is north of Lancaster in Lititz, they have a used Vee 1000 low mileage K9, and a used Versys also-check website! All the 650's are new 2015 models (Doubtful any test drives there).
Call them about test drives.
I drove the Vee and Wee before my recent purchase. The Wee was cheaper(purchase and insurance) and did everything I needed in a MC. No regrets here.
Edit- If you come through York, PA there is Action Sports---contact them also.
I live in Baltimore and just picked up a 2015 dl650. I wasn't able to test ride in Baltimore so I ended up purchasing from Action Motor Sports in York, PA. The guys were great and no problem with the test ride.
Hey as long as they let you test ride than you can go anywhere to make the purchase. If I were you and have the time I would go to Romney Cycles and trailer or ride a bike you buy from there. You really cant beat their prices.
Go for the 2014. It's local so you would have to figure the cost of travel to and from Romney into the equation. There is no difference between the 2014 and 2015 except color schemes. I'm actually quite surprised about the cost of that demo model at Romney. It seems a little steep. I've always been one for buying brand new as I know exactly how it was broken in, ridden, maintained, and everything done to it. At first I wanted the adventure model but after buying the non adv model I'm much happier I was able to outfit it with my own stuff.
Thanks for the advice. I also like the zero miles as some demos are ridden like stolen bikes.
I also thought about the adventure, but like you, decided that I'd like to pick my own accessories and make it more my own.
Glad to know the '14s and '15s have no differences.
I'm trying to get the local price down a few hundred more if I can.
I'll try a few more shops up in PA to see what they can do on theirs.
Scribe, It sounds like you are focused on some particular Stroms.
I'll just mention that Lebanon Valley Cycles ( Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha) is on Rt. 72 maybe a mile or two South of I-78 or rt. 22 in Jonestown, Pa. That's about 30 miles further North of Lancaster, however.
I had test rode a couple of bikes there over 2 years ago and bought my used 2011 Wee there.
They currently list a new '14 Vee2 for $9999. Probably some wiggle room this time of year. Romney is probably cheaper. I noticed that Romney changed their website and no longer post prices. I have no idea if the prices at either place include any set-up and freight charges. For a leftover '14 those charges might be waived? If the extra charges aren't included in the quoted price, it would be substantially more money.
Maybe we could get together for a ride. As I previously mentioned I live in central NJ so I'm only about 2 hours away. I was out there back in spring and loved it. I had no idea where I was going and just rode around without direction. Maybe you can show me some nice roads. I too wanted the red originally but unfortunately they don't offer the 2015 in red here in the US. I ended up with the black and couldn't be happier.
The black is really nice and that would have been my preferred color over red, but reds nice, and the deal was better..
Sure a ride sometime would be great. Fantastic roads around here around Lancaster PA.
