Gentlemen, I can't decide which bike to purchase since I like both
bikes. Most of my riding will be in the mountains of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina, 2 up. Whatta think? I appreciate any comments. Richard |

They're two totally different motorcycles. The SVS has a committed gixxer-like seating positiong. Leaned over, pegs up and back. Good motor, good suspension, may not be the most comfortable for a passenger.
V-Strom, upright ergos. Wide seat. More comfortable for 2-up riding. If it were between a SV or a V-Strom, I'd look at the Standard SV1000.

Two up I think I would go with the Strom with a Corbin seat. The naked SV with an aftermarket faring would work as well. What are you currently riding and why are you thinking of switching.

have owned 40 bikes. Starting with a Ducati Bronco in the late 50's
to a 750 Yamaha Seca in '82. Moto-X in 70's with Bultace Pursang and 250 CZ. Now I am thinking of getting "back in" to a road bike. Ducs are too pricey and I thought that the Suzuki looked better for the money. What is the going price on a new 'V-Strom? Thanks for the info. Richard |

If you like driving in the fetal position, the SV1000S is great, but not well suited for long distances. If you're over 40, you may find your shoulders getting achy along with your backside as the SV1000S seat is thin and hard. It's a good 60 miles then take a break bike.
The 'Strom on the other hand is very comfortable for LONG distance rides. Ergos are amazingly comfortable and you'll sit upright with your weight on your bottom and not on your shoulders. Get yourself a decent saddle and you'll happily go from a full tank to your next fill up before you want to stop and take a break. Distance between fill ups is longer with the 'Strom thanks to the larger fuel tank. AND your passenger will like the wider and generously padded rear seat the 'Strom offers as well... |

THE SVS has a very serious riding position. It limits the time spent a lower speeds. I commuted on a 03 sv650s last year when I got into slow traffic I hated the bike. I have heard rumors that the SVS's and sv are going to have an ergonomics change before they get to the show room this year. Due to the amount of complaints.
If you spend your time primarily riding hard and you will love the sv. Mine now comes out mostly for track days. SSMV650 |

I just read some info on the SV650 and Sv1000, I think it was on the Suzuki site. They changed the frame so the seat height is lower. Didn't sound like they changed the seating position at all. They only had listed the SV650, 650S and the SV1000S no 1000 naked. I was hoping they would raise the bars and bring the foot pegs forward and down some for us old guys. At my age and with my knees and wrists I'm sticking with the V-strom. You can ride it all day long and when the roads turn twisty you can still have a lot of fun.

I rode a SV650 for only 2,000 miles a couple of years ago and sold it. Nice bike, great engine, but just not comfortable.
I own a DL650 now and love it for all the comfort reasons mentioned. |

I had a VFR (similar riding position to SV) before the V Strom. One thing that really bothered me riding 2 up was the passenger position being so high. Could feel passengers weight when cornering and difficult manuevering coming to a stop or in slow traffic. Also being in a leaned over riding position with narrower bars gives a lot less leverage. V Strom carries passenger weight a lot lower and is much more enjoyable with a passenger. I've owned a lot of bikes and no bike combines the comfort, light weight, reasonable price and performance of the V Strom.
