Bringing back to the top since its now riding season and someone may need a free place to camp with use of shower and bathroom. Lots local resturants near me.
I have a grill and charcol if you would like to cook your own meals on a grill. I have a new 2 person tent if needed.

Hey iloco, mad cow Mike here. I'm from Abingdon. Bought a 2012 Vstrom 650 just a couple of months ago. Looking for someone to ride with occasionally. I ride alot up your way. Whitetop rd. to 84, to konnorock, 58, Teas rd. I really like to eat at a country diner by Thompson bridge. I think its called Caseys' ? Anyway, if you would ever like to have some company on a ride or two, lets get together.

Hi iloco,
I'll be passing through (Oct 18-25) and was planning on camping at Hungry Mother State Park. I'm coming in from Ontario and was planning on staying a few nights in the Deals Gap area before heading home. If you feel like joining me on a portion of my ride south (or back north a week later), send me a PM.

Very kind of you to post your offer

juan I am only 5 miles from Hungry Mother Park going the back way to it.
You are welcome to camp at my place if you like. I can give you electricity, a place to put your bike out of the weather and use of my bathroom to shower and what ever.
All depending on the weather if I can join you on riding to deals gap. If its cold I can not ride because of health reasons and the medication I have to take. I freeze if it drops below 55 degrees. Getting old has its drawbacks.

Do let me know when you are in my area even if you don't stay at my place.

Thanks very much. I have heated gear, so it helps me ride in the colder temps - otherwise I get cold very easily. If the weather is really bad, then I won't head out on this trip, so I'll wait until closer to the departure date and check to see how the forecast is looking. I'll head out if the temps are above 35 and no risk of snow at higher elevations.

Will keep you posted.
Cheers!

Thumbs up

I love that area, wish it was closer to Alabama. I like to camp at the Hurricane CG off 16, nice private sites and hot showers. I spent three nights there this year.

Yep. Our favorite campground. We stay there at least a couple nights each year. Already been there once this season and trying to find time to spend another couple nights. Getting cool though...Rather remote but always well kept / tidy. Only 2-3 miles off Hwy 16.

Default Meadows of Dan

Iloco,

I like to get up in the Meadows of Dan area, Tuggles Gap, and so on and ride whenever I can. Went up there last weekend and circled back through Ferrum and Gretna, then home to Milton, NC (Just over the state line near Danville, VA). I'll have to give you a holler sometime and meet up with you. I've heard about the Back of the Dragon and want to ride it sometime but it's a long way up there and back in a day for me. Have to wait til sometime that I have a weekend. I was doing some work up in Tazewell many years ago and drove my car over the ridge from Abbington or somewhere just east of Abbington to Richlands is it? Anyway, I was able to read my own license tag on several of the curves. I was on an 88 Toyota Camry and several times had to go in 1st gear and turn the steering wheel all the way to the stops. Then I'd meet a coal truck going the other way and I haven't figured out yet how they managed that trick. I'd like to ride that road sometime on the Wee. If you're coming down my way sometime, my email address is "wltiv@yahoo.com".
