Asked dealer for 40 - got 48 in the rear cold - bit dodgy on this.....
Asked for 36 in the front - got 38 cold. This I can live with
I've got a long run to Virginia on Sunday so the extra pressure will give me some fuel mileage and feel lighter but perhaps a bit on the squirelly side.
Yeah yeah let some air out ....not so easy with bad knees and a TPS sensor to get off and the on again.
I know over a week that 48 will drift down but ....
I agree with notacop are your sensors accurate? Also coming from the auto industry no two tire gauges read the same. Maybe the tech has a fault gauge and does not no it. You can mention it to the tech and he might appreciate it. So many variables.
How do you "properly" check or fill your tires if it is that much of an issue for you? These pressures are too high, you know it because you are asking opinions about it. ?
My TPMS IS accurate ... it's been compared against our compressor and mechanics and our fanatical cyclist numerous times.
The better question is why you DON'T have a TPMS system given it's benefits. Somehow you think YOU pushing various gauges on a tire stem is constantly accurate ???? pardon my laughter.
I can see all the time the pressure at cold and the pressure and temp at speed and see how speed impacts.
Re: Tire pressure warning systems
i've got a digital TPMS mounted (on the rims). it's been 6 years now and still going strong.
very accurate and love the instant monitoring as i'm riding.
it was pricey but great peace of mind.
the system actually identified a tire leak (nail in tire) WHILE i was riding.
No question that the TPS is a nice feature on a motorcycle. But not having one is not a safety violation. Most of us check our tires, because we can, with an inexpensive pencil style or digital gauge at semi regular intervals. I've visually found a nail in the tire occasionally and the vague feeling from the rear of the bike gave me notification on more than one occasion that the air pressure was reduced
Probably more important is ...Do you have tire repairing tools and ability to use them when the indicator says you don't have enough air in the tires?
