Quick Question regarding preload adjusters

I bought some used 2002 forks to replace the forks that I bent around a buick in May. Seems they don't have preload adjusters. Wish I had realized that before I purchased but oh well. My question:

I still have my old forks. Is there any way to swap out the top portion of the 02 forks with the old 03 ones? If so, is it pretty much an easy swap. Thanks for any pic.

Picture is for reference.

Try it and find out.

I'm pretty sure the answer is "yes", but that's based mostly on very vague memories of seeing this come up before and the knowledge that Suzuki is highly unlikely to cut different threads in a fork with the same diameter.

You may need to change the length of the spacer to end up with the correct range of preload.

If you're not already familiar with the innards of these forks, you may need to peruse a shop manual for a while. There's a damper rod to deal with and you may want to get your mitts on the special tool for retrieving the damper rod first.

2002 means a Vee. Vee's have cartridge forks, not damper rod forks.

Noted. I wish Suzuki would do a better job with nomenclature.
