the short: trip in 2 days, closest shop has 1 705 rear for my wee in stock they say is bias ply. They state its made in 2015 so its newer stock. Is the newer bias ply ok ?? Note very very short on time as well as doing a 4 day trip starting friday.

the long: So wife wants to do a trip as we are expecting a kid in 5 more months (our first). Its a last min planing one, ie last Saturday idea and leaving this Friday. We believe it may be a few years before we get to do a motorcycle trip together so wanted to get one in. Plus getting as picture in front of the Blue ridge parkway sign where I proposed, with a baby bump sounds fun.

So her tire on her hyperstrada should make it, but looked at the wee this morning after new battery and oil change and did a O CRAP. the tread on the center of my tourance in the rear is almost completely gone. this being long weekend in Canada (where I am) and the US, if we run out of tread on tire getting ti changed would be a pain tell Tuesday when i am suppose to be back to work.

so did some calling around, the shop near me has 1 705 in stock, great and its made this year great, its 117$ WOOO not as cheep as i can get it but great local price, then only to find out its bias ply DOH. This was to be my first shinko as wanted to try the 705, and planed on radial. Most everyone now uses the radial, but are the newer bias ply better then they where, ie would this thing be ok if its made this year or am i asking for problems and should try other places. I do know where to get the radial, but its a lot further away and i am really short on time, will have to beg for a work form home day tomorrow just to do this local shop at lunch.

I think the far more likely explanation for all this is that the shop doesn't know what the hell they're talking about.

The only 150/70R17 Shinko 705 that's been available for a long time is a radial -- 150/70R17

The "R" means Radial.

As you'll see, some sizes are bias-ply, some are radials. Unless you're installing the wrong size or the tire is four years old, you're getting a radial.

Now, there is the new Shinko 805 -- this is a bias-ply knobby tire, so perhaps the confusion lies with the tire model under discussion. Are you talking about the 705 or 805?

(The 805 looks very similar to the Continental TKC knobby, which is also bias-ply.)

interesting as i found out they had a radial in stock but for someone else and want 144 for the tire. at 117$ thats a decent price if its a radial from local shop. I did ask the date and they did say this year. So hey maybe its radial and they dont know any better. Guess i have to go and see it myself.

and its 100% about 705 tires.

so i got the tire (no choice needed tire and need it cheep). So it is made this year date code being 0215, sayssidewhall and tread is nylon 3 and its speed rated to 69Q so 160KPH, radial is 69H for 210kph. Its a wee i am not breaking speed records. I am in canada and canadian shinko site lists this tire as well. I checked the site bwringer posted and its a US site. So in Canada we can still get new bias ply 150 70/17.

I have run bias ply in the fourm of a k60 heidenau for a trans labrador highway trip. I did not know they where bias ply actually until I started looking for 705 yesterday, go figure. Loved that tire and the ridged sidewall helped a fellow biker who ripped out a piece of sidewall after trip) and still road the tire home wit no air and felt no difference. So hey only a 2000km trip then next year sicne kid on way expect to be just close to home. So can monitor the thing.
